KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) - Court documents reveal Tanya Chamberlain's last moments and the evidence that police have against a 14-year-old and 13-year-old boy accused of killing her.
The two eighth graders attended class at Bernard C. Campbell Middle School the day after they allegedly brutally stabbed Tanya Chamberlain to death as she undertook a seemingly routine task.
Court documents reviewed exclusively by KCTV5 on Tuesday show that police obtained search warrants for the Lee's Summit homes of both boys and their school lockers.
The 43-year-old woman had gone to the car wash early Nov. 1. Surveillance video shows her vacuuming her vehicle at 1:14 a.m. At 1:51 a.m., the two suspects are seen in the area.(snip)
Clothing was taken from the boys' homes that matches that seen in the surveillance video. One of those was a distinctive Northeast Vikings sweatshirt that one of the boys was known to wear along with distinctive checkered shoes.
Authorities say both teens made recorded statements implicating each other and they knew details that only someone involved in the crime would know.

She didn’t deserve to be killed by to rabid animals, however, this story makes no sense.
The victim had Multiple Sclerosis as a child and usually slept during the day.
In 1957, in the OLDE USA(downtown Miami ) 2am , I washed my car and had no worries. If it were still the OLDE USA, she and anyone else should be free to do whatever law abiding people want to do!
No need to tell the alert/awake people, it is no longer the USA!
Makes sense to me. A lot of people with Neurological issues are night owls including me until my sleep patterns recently changed a few hours. Night time also allows for a less hectic world for them to function in. It's sad that now days the public puts the victim on trial in the media sometimes even more so than the perps. That is especially true in court rooms too. Some persons unfortunately do not have real good street smarts when it comes to late night activities.

Come on. This story is a tad strange.
According to her friends, she was usually out at night.
I have no idea if she actually met the person but she WAS cleaning her car at that time.
The video is proof.
Or works a night shift perhaps going to the store at the car wash on break? Believe it or not many persons do not sleep at night and function legitimately and routinely in a night time world. Many times it is persons with disabilities OR persons who work night shifts and have a night off.
Just because you or others sleep well at night and function only in a 6:00am-midnight awake world doesn't mean others don't carry on a legitimate life while you sleep. My favorite shopping time is about 1:00am. No people blocking you, no screaming kids who scream to hear themselves scream with parents refuse to control {I like kids BTW} and often short lines and much, much, quieter. Plus the darn shelves are freshly stocked.

She DROVE to a car wash to borrow money for gas to drive. WHY did she have to borrow money for gas? Who was she borrowing money from? How often did she do this? Could she have been there for another reason?
ALL of these questions will be asked by the defense as they try to raise doubts about what happened.
The obituary says she had an associates degree in nursing. Doesn’t say anything about current employment.

I had family that used to live in Lee's Summit. Well for starters maybe she had a doctors appointment later that day in KC which is about an hours drive one way so I'm told by a niece who worked in KC and lived in Lee's Summit. Maybe borrowing from a friend or relative?
Needing to borrow money when you are disabled is VERY usual. Maybe just maybe she needed some Meds and her Co-Pay for a Med she thought she could do without till payday? Why would she need money on November 1st of all darn days? Well it's because Social Security check did not come until November 3 and she was flat broke. Hey I've ran out in the middle of the night & woke up family to borrow money for emergencies at night. I'm disabled and I was also a caregiver to my severely disabled wife for 29 years so yeah I can understand what might not make sense to others. BTW we always shopped at night.
Now why would she vacuum out her car at 1:00am. Spilled beverage? Got tired of neighbors complaining about her cleaning her car at night? Obsessive Compulsive Disorder where cleaning is repetitive? Who knows. This sounds like a carwash/convenience store where she may have felt somewhat safe.
It's sad that victims are placed on trial these days even more so than Perps. How dare her give the perps opportunity and temptation /sarcasm.
Post 96 may help. She was disabled with M.S. Meds for neurological issues can disrupt sleep patterns. Many disabled are night owls. Her age would be about right for M.S. M.S. can be highly visible or not noticeable to others. I’ve known several who have it. One day they may be walking OK the next day they may be using a cane or even a motorized scooter. Neil Cuvuto for example rides a bike to work but I’d say he has days he can’t. It varies greatly patient to patient and can vary significantly day to day..
Now I’ll take this one step further. Why would the kids think she had money. Well if she had a Disabled Driver License Plate or a mirror placard that would say she got a check. Here’s the thing. SSI {WELFARE} not the same as disability pays the person on either the last day of the month or the first. But SSDI {disability} is on the third. Maybe perps did not realize that? If she didn’t get SSI then she would likely need to borrow because disability checks generally are not enough to live on especially if you have a neurological disorder requiring special meds etc.
One thing is for certain, it appears. The little monsters were in the Hy-Vee grocery store right next to that car wash around that time; probably before they went to the car wash, because the cops nailed them running from the car where her body was found.
