One-tenth of those who currently on death row in the United States are military veterans, including some with post-traumatic stress disorder that was not factored into their sentences, according to a new report released on the eve of Veterans Day.
[Snip]
While it is not known exactly how many veterans have been sentenced to death, the report released Tuesday by the Death Penalty Information Center says that about 300 of the country's more than 3,000 death-row inmates have served in the military. It goes on to argue that a person's military service should be factored into a possible sentence, particularly if the person facing trial has shown signs of trauma and possible post-traumatic stress disorder.

And 9 out of 10 are not!
Show me the DD 214.
One in ten Politicians should be inmates.
Yes, a certainly unbiased report from the Death Penalty Information Center promulgated by the conservative rag WaPo. /s
Liberals have historically hated military and had disdain for veterans. Reports like Mike Wallace have even said if they were in the bush with rebels (communists) and they were about to ambush American Soldiers, he wouldn’t do a damn thing except keep filming.
So why the big “we gotta have a veteran’s status considered” when he butchers, rapes or murders someone?
Could it be the urge to not kill a potential future voter is stronger than retribution or the assurance that one will never commit heinous crimes if they are ended?
13.4% of the male US population are veterans. If the statistic were random, that would mean 1 out of every 8 people on death row should be a veteran. In other words: veterans are less likely to be on death row than the general population.
Now, whether that number is statistically significant, or is just a random fluctuation from 1 in 10, we don't know, because we don't have enough information to do a test of significance. But I would bet some serious money that is is, and that our veterans, particularly our minority veterans, are far less violent than their crime statistics in the general population.
Geez I have NO idea where they are going with this....the gun grabbers are at it again. If they really want to be honest with themselves they’d see that 99.99 % of lefties are mentally ill.
There’s probably a lot of support personnel who did one tour out of theatre.
Actual combat vets... Probably not too many.
The highest profile vet murderers I can think of that were executed were John Muhammed, Timothy McVeigh, and that one Vietnam vet who executed a cop with an M1 after the cop pulled him over for speeding.
Hardly men sent there undeserved.
and I imagine its after the realization that they did it for a country that is no longer the America they went to war for.
Yes, imagine you put your life on the line and gave your all only to discover the people who run the country consider you expendable and hate you.
There was one here in my area in a place called the Vista and a cop responded since a report of shots fired was received. The cop was killed en route in a car accident.
Reminds me of an old Bill Mauldin cartoon from his book BACK HOME.
Willie is setting at the table with his wife. He is reading the local newspaper in which the headlines blare...SOLDIER SLAPS AUNT!!!
He says to his wife...”Here is a story of a triple axe murder on page six. NO GIs involved”.
How many of the 10% (if it’s even true?) were exposed to agent orange or the military vaccinations? If they are going to do a study they should also show all the chemicals our soldiers were exposed to. Is it the crap our government exposes them to that causes them to snap?
Are you ready for the stat of the future ... one in two vets are lgbt.
Or maybe it’s because of untreated PTSD, drug addictions, or their families falling apart.
So what.....
Meaningless number unless you tell me what portion of the regular population are veterans.
Those are my sentiments. If they did what got them there, send them over, NOW!
Since over 10% of the population are veterans, vets are underrepresented in the prison population.
