Just 30 minutes ahead of the fourth GOP presidential primary debate in Milwaukee, Senator Ted Cruz dropped a plan over at National Review to eliminate five major federal government agencies.
"We will sharply reduce the alphabet soup of government entities, beginning with the ABCs that should not exist in the first place: The Agencies, Bureaus, Commissions, and other programs that are constitutionally illegitimate and harmful to American households and businesses. It's time to return to a federal government that abides by our constitutional framework and strips power from unelected bureaucrats," Cruz writes.
First Cruz proposes the elimination of the IRS, which he has been openly advocating for months. The remaining agencies include the Department of Education, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. He's calling the plan Five For Freedom.
The IRS and these cabinet agencies are unnecessary and will be shuttered for the following reasons:
-Internal Revenue Service - to dramatically simplify the tax code and enable everyone to fill out their taxes on a postcard or smartphone app.
-Department of Education - to return education to those who know our students best: parents, teachers, local communities, and states. And to block-grant education funding to the states.
-Department of Energy - to cut off the Washington cartel, stop picking winners and losers, and unleash the energy renaissance.
-Department of Commerce - to close the "congressional cookie jar" and promote free enterprise and free trade for every business.
-Department of Housing and Urban Development - to offer real solutions that lift people out of hardship, rather than trapping families in a cycle of poverty, and to empower hurting Americans by reforming most of the remaining programs, such as Section 8 housing.
Cruz argues in the plan he won't do it through executive action, but by working with Congress. You can read more about his plan here.
I’d go further, but this is a good start.
In Cruz’ five.
Da give-me-dats aint going to like dis.
Conservatives couldn’t even get rid of the Export-Import Bank!
None of these will go, they will all find an excuse to continue to exist.
Nothing ends in the Government.
I love this guy!
Quite a few on this forum who lectured me on 1. The function of the ExIm and 2. The need for it. That crowd must be happy it got renewed. So why slam GOP Conservatives for voting like Free Republic would?
So, the guys defending it on FR weren't conservatives.
We have quite a few of them here.
It is simply cronyism.
hear, hear...they’re useless and dangerous. At a minimum they need to be disarmed as do almost all other fed agencies.
Why does everyone assume that the Congress will be the same then as it is now?
Thins are changing radically as messages Cruz’s and also Trump’s are what the electorate is yearning for. Remember, the primaries are relatively early. If either of the two become the big winner up to and to include SEC Tuesday (March 15) that would have coat tails. Most Federal and State primaries are more later in the year. Florida deadline for filing is late June and that primary is not until mid August.
All 435 seats in Congress are up in addition to 34 Senate seats. The coat tails have the potential to bring a wave of new reps.

This debate was supposed to be, and mostly was, about finance and the economy. Great debate, spot on.
Start with ALL of Obama’s Czars.
Eliminating the IRS as we know it today is brilliant, it is the HUB of all government spending without the IRS feeding those agencies they will collapse, there will need to be a whole new round of what can and cannot be funded using the Constitution as the foundation, this is the strategy Cruz intends to deploy, and as President he will veto any spending that is not constitutionally sound.
Cruz has the only plan that will effectively restore our Constitutional Free Republic, everything from A to Z in the Federal Government will face constitutional muster.
Yes there will be court challenges to everything, but Cruz will also have the opportunity to appoint a sufficient number of Constitutionally sound Judiciaries.
Cruz will need a conservative congress, he will in the General be doing what past candidates rarely did, he will be spending time and energy promoting candidates for congress while campaigning for POTUS no other candidate has the knowledge of conservationism to promote the right candidates.
When he is president he will do things the right way and frankly that will piss off many conservatives who want revenge on liberals by doing business like they did but we don’t need pay back we need the restoration of our Free Republic, the greatest assault on liberals will simply be “DOING RIGHT”!
It was an economic debate. It was on the Fox Business Channel. Why do you think they would ask a question about muslim fundamentalism?
That’s what I’m talking about.
Set the agenda. Make the Left respond to OUR issues on OUR terms, instead of talking about transgender bathrooms on THEIR terms. Put THEM on the defense. Make THEM defend these useless departments.
This is leadership.
-— This is just red meat to throw to Conservatives!
Nothing ends in the Government. -—
Despair isn’t a winning strategy.
-— The media will start attacking Cruz at Volume Eleven -—
Then we go to twelve. “It’s one more!” ;-)
