French jets bomb ISIS stronghold of Raqqa, Syria; But few may have been killed

The French air force carried out bombing missions on ISIS targets in Raqqa, Syria, for a second day in a row. France is retaliating against Islamist extremist terror attacks that killed at least 129 people in Paris.

ISIS claims Raqqa as the capital of its so-called caliphate.

On Monday, France targeted a command center, a recruitment center, an ammunition storage base and a training camp in the city, the French military said.

On Sunday, the air force struck similar strategic targets in multiple sorties, reinserting France, a partner in the U.S.-led coalition striking ISIS from the air, into the battle against ISIS.

Many bombs, few killed?

A group of anti-ISIS activists in Raqqa reported 24 bombs dropped and 30 explosions overnight into Monday. Mostly the suburbs were hit, but in the city, the stadium and the museum were also struck, said Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently.

ISIS uses the museum and the stadium as jails. Its headquarters are also in the stadium, the activists said.

On Sunday, 12 aircraft dropped 20 bombs on ISIS positions in Raqqa, destroying all targets, France's Defense Ministry said.

But French bombs may have killed few of the militants. The Islamist terror group has withdrawn from its sites in anticipation of the retaliation, Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently said. Streets have been empty, markets less crowded.

No civilian casualties have been reported, the activist group said, and the civilian population does not seem particularly worried.

The activists said there have been ISIS casualties but could not say how many.

I agree.

That’s THEIR FAULT.

The Geneva Convention requires militaries to segregate themselves from the civilian population.

Make the rubble bounce. Three times.

It’s ISIS’s fault.

“Many bombs, few killed?”

Sounds like Hussein-approved propaganda for ISIS.

Hell when the French claimed they dropped 20 bombs in their first air raid it turns out there were 10 aircraft in the raid! That is only 2 bombs per aircraft.

In Nam our F-4J Phantom II’s were loaded with up to 18 500 lb bombs each when they took off for their first mission in the mornings. We were expected to make sure 15 F-4s (out of 20) were ready to fly in the morning. And if they were able they returned ready for another round of air to ground raids.

“Many bombs, few killed?”

From the article:
“The U.S. military probably handed over a list of targets the coalition was planning to strike to the French to let them fly the sorties, said retired Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling”

...and Obama probably handed them over to Erdogan, who warned ISIS to evacuate.

My guess is that the high level ISIS guys are heading to Obama’s safe haven of Mosul, in a strategic retreat.

They are going to have to leave Syria to Assad and the Russians for a long “election” process, and give Raqaa to the French to bomb. A bunch of cannon fodder will be left to die in the defense, but the top guys will likely “unexpectedly” escape.

The noose is tightening around ISIS in Syria. If they can not get ammo resupply from Turkey by ground (which is in danger of complete cut), or “capture” US resupply by air (when the Russians/regime get close enough to control the air), then their position in Syria will be untenable.

Given that the administration gave permission, this was considered a proportional response from both governments. No deaths.

Just read a thread of the top 10 songs during Nam...

2. I Feel Like I’m Fixin to Die Rag by Country Joe & The Fish

Misunderstood and misinterpreted by most Americans, Country Joe’s iconic song became a flashpoint for disagreements about the war and its politics. But Country Joe, himself a Navy veteran - who when we first met him told us “I’m a veteran first and hippie second” - intended this “not as a pacifist song, but as a soldier’s song.” “It’s military humor that only a soldier could get away with,” he added. “It comes out of a tradition of GI humor in which people can bitch in a way that will not get them in trouble but keeps them from insanity.”

And the soldiers got it! As Michael Rodriguez, an infantryman with the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, affirmed: “Bitter, sarcastic, angry at a government some of us felt we didn’t understand, Rag became the battle standard for grunts in the bush.” [betrayal will do that]

I’m thinking the latest ammo drop to “Syrian rebels” is specifically meant for Hussein’s ISIS buddies.

“ISIS is getting supplied by Saudi Arabia.”

My understanding was that the Saudis paid, and the Turks provided (keeping Saudi hands clean).

But if push came to shove, I believe that they would smuggle supplies directly over their border. Maybe they are now, for all I know. It sure would be easier to resupply the Southern edge of ISIS (Ramadi) from Saudi Arabia.

Things are getting more hard core for the Saudis, juggling Yemen and Syria and Iraq - they are having to step out of character. I just saw that they were approved for over a billion dollars worth of smart bombs (JDAMs, JDAM kits, and Paveway laser guided munitions) - just to replace what they have been using.

Turkey just got approved to buy a load JDAMs (first time for them). I wonder what they are getting ready to bomb? Kurds?

RE: My understanding was that the Saudis paid, and the Turks provided (keeping Saudi hands clean).

So, the question then is this — if the Turks provided ISIS, who was then was responsible for the most recent terrorist attacks in Turkey?

Also, Turkey is bearing a huge brunt of the Syrian refugee wave. How does arming ISIS solve that problem?

Wow.
Well the Saudi don’t like combat that dirties their fingernails. They also know that these bombs will not stop the infiltration of Iranians.

Have you noticed the bombing in Lebanon, the Russian Shootdown and the French attack coming right after all that money they got back in the AGREEMENT.

Seems that since ISIS is keeping Iran from taking over 1/5 of the worlds oil, nothing is going to end ISIS the decision on who will take over that oil is decided on, becaue........the Saudis are getting the pink slip....and since the Chinese get half their oil from there....well its like a 6 sided chess game.

“So, the question then is this - if the Turks provided ISIS, who was then was responsible for the most recent terrorist attacks in Turkey?”

Who benefits?

The big attack in Turkey, was at a gathering of Erdogan’s most significant political opponents - the Kurdish HDP Party - shortly before the election. Several candidates were killed - the blast was not targeted at a general crowd, but focused on a group of politicians. Coincidentally, they were also bombed before the last election earlier this year. If ISIS was against Erogan, maybe they would attack his Party, instead of his opponents.

Erdogan’s main strategy to regain his Party’s (AKP) loses from last election, was to reignite Turkish/Kurdish military conflict, which is an emotional issue for lots of Turks. It worked (supplemented with vote fraud).

It is a twofer for Erdogan to assassinate his opponents, and conceal his support of ISIS by pretending to be their victim. It may well have been ISIS who executed the attack, but they may have done it at the behest of their benefactor, Erdogan.

Erdogan is consolidating a dictatorship in Turkey, and his Party are islamists who yearn to restore the caliphate.

Three letters: PGM - deliver ordnance where it counts, not to the general area
