The biggest surprise of the presidential election so far is the emergence and persistent strength of Donald Trump. Although Ben Carson is remarkable in many respects, he is the latest iteration of a familiar figure in Republican primary campaigns: the favored candidate of conservative evangelicals.
By contrast, Mr. Trump is the staunchest champion of the white working class that American politics has seen in decades.
Thanks to a recently released survey, a collaboration between the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI) and the Brookings Institution, we can now identify with much greater precision the sources of Mr. Trump's support and the sentiments of his supporters.
Among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, 39% of the white working class backs Mr. Trump, twice his share of white college-educated voters. Fifty-five percent of his supporters are white working class, compared with 35% for the rest of the Republican field and only 32% for Mr. Carson.

White, graduate degree, not âworking classâ, and Iâm for Trump!
...........................................................
White, Female, Ivy League, retired Boss-Lady, and I’m for Trump.
Great!!!
HA! GREAT graphic, Jane!!
Bravo!
Trumpâs no Reagan and to try to make that distinction is either wholly ignorant of or insulting to Reagan. Reagan is a great man. Trumpâs a fake.
............................................................
A Fake? Says you. Seems the MAJORITY of Republican voters disagree with you along with increasing evidence of Trump support among Democrats and other groups traditionally Democrat. I see REAGAN TIMES as that is exactly what happened with FORMER DEMOCRAT REAGAN.
The Times make the men! We need a Trump RIGHT NOW. Some common sense at the helm just might keep our ship of state off the rocks. Trump is the ONLY one of the candidates who is guided by Common Sense and Gut Instincts that are PURELY AMERICAN. I, and many, many others are SICK and TIRED of POLITICAL PROMISES that lead to nothing but MORE OF THE SAME OLD, SAME OLD SELLOUT! America doesn’t want another politician, it wants a RED, WHITE, and BLUE AMERICAN. Trump qualifies.
Woo hoo!!
These guys know that Trump WILL make America GREAT, again!
=-)
Trumpâs no Reagan and to try to make that distinction is either wholly ignorant of or insulting to Reagan. Reagan is a great man. Trumpâs a fake.
......................................................
I’d suggest you learn to read with comprehension.......I said it sounded like Reagan’s TIME. As far as ignorant is concerned, well....if the shoe fits, wear it. Seems to be ABOUT your size. Cruz is a politician who sold himself out when he believed(or so he says) McConnell’s lies. He needs more seasoning in the REAL world. We need JOBS in OUR country, not everywhere else in the world benefiting from our shipping every job overseas. THE ECONOMY is #1 and TRUMP understands the ECONOMY. Cruz is a lawyer and knows nothing about the intricacies of economics and development.
Itâs not my opinion, but proven fact. Reagan was a man of honor. Trumpâs a serial trophy-wifer, known liar (er exaggerator) and NY Democrat.
........................................................
So Reagan was divorced from Jane Wyman to marry Nancy, he was also a California DEMOCRAT before he saw the light and became a Republican, AND he badly messed up a few times and had to apologize to the American people, who forgave him,........so WHAT are your OVERRIDING POINTS of difference about REAGAN’s superiority?????? I’m listening!
If elected, I will instruct my attorney general to hunt down anyone who ignores the federal do not call list prosecute them to the point of total bankrupcy if that is what it takes to make them honor the list.
