Spare us the sudden sanctimony on Syrian refugees (president sneers at citizenry)
NYPOST.COM ^ | 11/20/15 | RICH LOWRY

Post-Paris Obama remarked that the murderous terrorist assault is a "setback;" but sneers that US sentiment against taking more Syrian refugees is an "atrocity."

Syrian refugees are most useful to Obama as a symbol of his alleged cosmopolitanism, and of the supposed backwardness of his opposition (we, the people).

Obama warned against that dark impulse inside of us, as if Americans are planning to draw and quarter Syrian refugees; he says slamming the door in their faces would be a betrayal of our values. Its remarkable this president is lecturing us on humanitarianism. When did Obama began caring about Syrians? What if those 10,000 Syrian refugees were sent back in their native country to be gassed, barrel-bombed, shelled or shot? Would Obama consider them just part of the ever-growing casualty count?

True, Europe faces a migrant crisis, so tell Germanys foolhardy chancellor to stop encouraging migrants to pour in; enforce national boundaries; refuse to accept anyone not processed properly. The US has a migrant overflow at the border, we need not be bidding for Syrian refugees.

That we are discussing a Syrian refugee crisis at all is another symptom of Obamas abject foreign policy failures. So, please, Mr. President, spare us your sanctimony and condescension.

AS ZINGIRL INSIGHTFULLY POSTED: It wasnt an ideology that sprayed bullets into a Paris concert hall killing innocents. Nor was it an ideology that stormed the Beslan school and tortured small children for 3 days before ending in a gruesome bloody horror with 350 dead children. IT WAS ISLAM.

Yup

Interesting wording. Not what you meant, but we did let a murderer into the White House.

Hold them at some point offshore from the Continental United States.

How about Guantanamo?

and sufficiently remote from the US mainland

Nah, if you're gonna put them on an island, I think that Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket would be a better choice.

Another suggestion - Vieques Island, about six miles offshore from Puerto Rico, which was used by the US Navy as a target practice range and cannon bombardment practice.

The Puerto Ricans have contested this use, and presently the US Navy has abandoned Vieques, but there is still a significant amount of ground contamination from the TONS of ammunition still in the soil. The US holds title going back to the 1930’s when they acquired much of the land from failed sugar cane plantations.

The Puerto Ricans view this island as some kind of vacation and retirement resort place, but that may be overridden by the needs for national security purposes, in this instance, sort of a holding area remote from the US mainland. Then ALL male “refugees” from the age of 16 and up would be shunted for holding purposes to this locality, allowing the widows and orphans to proceed to one of the barrier islands off the North Carolina coast, where they would undergo medical examination and certification as to their fitness to enter the mainland.

Keep in mind there may still be unexploded ordnance on Vieques, as well as a considerable amount of “depleted” uranium, which constitutes most of the contamination of the soil.
