The conflicting stories over yesterday's dramatic downing of a Russian jet on the Syria-Turkish border continue to grow, and after the ongoing confusion whether the Russian pilot did or did not enter Turkish territory for a grand total of 17 seconds, moments ago Konstantin Murahtin, the co-pilot from the downed Russian jet who survived the ground fire by US-armed rebels unlike his pilot, and who was rescued by the Syrian army, said that contrary to official reports that Turkey had somehow warned the Russian jet "10 times" (in 17 seconds?) that it would fire, Turkey had in fact given no warning whatsoever before downing the Russian jet.

You have to understand what the cruising speed of a bomber is compared to an F-16. If they wanted to warn us, they could have shown themselves by heading on a parallel course. But there was nothing. And the rocket hit our tail completely unexpectedly. We didn't even see it in time to take evasive maneuvres."

Turkey may be lying. I don’t know. What I do know is I would never assume one nation is lying simply because a Russian pilot says so. Russians have NEVER been known for their honesty.
They had now warning?! Doesn’t say much about their air defensive systems.

Turkey try to contact the Russian Jet. Due to mechanical failure, operator error what ever, the Russians do not hear the Turks.
Turks: we contacted them the Russians ignored us.
Russians: We never heard from them.
This is why you do not shoot 1st and ask questions later. You have no way of knowing the pilot is hearing your warnings.

In my opinion there was no need for a shoot-down as the general rule seems to be an interception and escort rather than a shoot-down. This was a pointless and dangerous escalation, especially since Turkey regularly flies over Syrian territory on their missions to bomb the Kurds. This essentially gives the Russians permission to shoot down F-16’s over Syria. Some of those might be ours.

How long was that Russian aircraft in Turkisk airspace? How long does it take to transmit 10 warnings? How close wat that F-1g to the Russian bomber?

The facts tend to support the Russians. In any event, there is no justification for a shoot down of a non-threatening plane that for the sake of argument at most spent 17 seconds in Turkish airspace. Anyone who takes a contrary view would be supporting Breshnev’s shootdown of KAL 007, which was a sustained incursion in Soviet (not Russian) airspace. It seems there are a lot of McCainiac Neocons commenting on this story (not referring to you).
