CHICAGO (AP) -- After days of protests in Chicago since the release of a video showing a black teenager shot 16 times by a white police officer, demonstrators were poised to disrupt Black Friday shopping with a march through the heart of the city's most famous retail district.

Demonstrators scheduled the march on Friday, the traditional beginning of the holiday shopping season that packs Michigan Avenue's Magnificent Mile. Activists hope to bring attention to the Oct. 20, 2014, slaying of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald and an investigation into his shooting that some say was mishandled.

“... with a march through the heart of the city’s most famous retail district.”

Where none of the shootings took place.

Will there be any protests for the execution-style murder of the nine year old Chicago boy, Tyshawn Lee by the black thug.. No? I didn’t think so.

Cops love those wearing the pants halfway down their ass. Easy to catch in a foot chase.

The silver lining is this will hasten the transition of retail to online versus brick-and-mortar. I don’t see many whites employed by brick-and-mortar retailers anymore, so I’m not losing any sleep.

Also, in this day & age where so many people have access to cars, there is simply no reason to set up stores near mass transit or urban welfare reservations.

Hire some Koreans from LA, they will keep order and save your business.

They tend to fall down stairs with greater frequency also.

I wonder if they will call for the resignation of Rahm Emanuel? The investigation was deliberately delayed because of the mayoral election.

All the shoppers are already done. It is almost noon and none of the hood rats are out protesting because it is still too early and after all it is wet and cold.

LOL! I saw a COPS episode once where the cops were chasing a “what I do?” jughead in the dark who ran off into the woods. The jughead had on some of those sneakers with the lights on them that light up when you step down. The cops were laughing so hard that they had a hard time catching him.

By brother-in-law is a cop. Years ago (when those sneakers with the LED's on the back that flash when you walk first came out) they were chasing a "youth" through a pitch black park at night. Halfway through the chase, my brother -in- law had to stop for a minute because he was laughing so hard. This "youth" thought he had given them the slip in the total darkness, but every time he took a step they could see where he was.

Chicago - Detroit 2.0, thoroughly bankrupted, burned-out, and sacked by the looters/barbarians.

Truth in advertising — there is a real Black Friday on Michigan Avenue. The Magnificent Mile no more. Way to go Jessie and Rahm.

I’ve always found that getting shopping done early avoids many of the people I like to avoid. When we had feeble attempts at BLM protests in neighboring Newark NJ, it was all about tying up the later commute - nobody was awake to disrupt the morning commute, and nobody had jobs that prevented them from disrupting the later commute.

A friend described how, when I asked how her company in Newark’s small downtown handled it, the employees were told to work from home. No disruption, and the city lost out on whatever business those employees brought to the city for that day. Modern technology has made the protest methods of 50 years ago obsolete - just as the protesters themselves are obsolete, with no role in a civilized, technologically advanced society. There is a demographic map online (with zoom features) that can make it fairly easy to avoid ever encountering a BLM protester (or any blood relative thereof).

Took my teenage grandson and two of his friends - all from farming area in Kansas - to Chicago about ten years ago for the Thanksgiving weekend. First time I had been in the city ever and was really impressed with the stores. The boys were really wide eyed the entire time.

Different era. People smoking in restaurants, bellringers collecting money on the street corners, lots of people saying Merry Christmas. They spent hours in North Face store and loved Mike Ditka’s restaurant. Wouldn’t go back now if somebody paid me.
