End the Gun Epidemic in America (New York Times)
NY Times via MSN ^ | 12/04/15 | THE EDITORIAL BOARD

Posted on 12/05/2015 2:36:41 AM PST by Libloather

**SNIP**

It is a moral outrage and a national disgrace that civilians can legally purchase weapons designed specifically to kill people with brutal speed and efficiency. These are weapons of war, barely modified and deliberately marketed as tools of macho vigilantism and even insurrection. America's elected leaders offer prayers for gun victims and then, callously and without fear of consequence, reject the most basic restrictions on weapons of mass killing, as they did on Thursday. They distract us with arguments about the word terrorism. Let's be clear: These spree killings are all, in their own ways, acts of terrorism.

**SNIP**

Certain kinds of weapons, like the slightly modified combat rifles used in California, and certain kinds of ammunition, must be outlawed for civilian ownership. It is possible to define those guns in a clear and effective way and, yes, it would require Americans who own those kinds of weapons to give them up for the good of their fellow citizens.

My P229 .40 was not designed to blow rainbow smoke up someone’s backside. It’s a tool I will use to protect myself, family, and friends. I am so sick of these fairy navel gazers.

How is giving up MY gun supposed to make me safer when there are not only nutjobs but Muslim Terrorists shooting up the place out there?

Forget that!

I'll retain the means to defend me and my own! (and maybe someone else's too!)

Wait a minute, I’m confused. I thought the Supreme Court ruled that we couldn’t own a short barreled shotgun because it wasn’t a weapon of war?

This whole self defense and rights thing is just too complicated for the average citizen. I think we ought to just let public opinion and the media determine what is permitted of the masses. /sarcasm

This is a major propaganda blitz from the left. No appeals to logic or reason will have any effect on them.

“... macho vigilantism and even insurrection.”

The money quote. Insurrection is what they REALLY fear. As long as we common peasants have weapons, they know they can never totally control us. These bastards at the NY Times are modern day Bolsheviks, the members of the proletariat who want to crush anyone who disagrees with there communist ideology. When the time comes, they know they will be sent to the guillotine.

I know, just another reminder.

Actually, it is interesting to notice the apparent coordination levels.

Mumbles about gun control

Colorado incident

More mumbles about gun control...no takers

Terror attack in CA

Wholesale shrieking about gun control (But NOT about vetting potentially terrorist "refugees"), which has been blown off the front page by terrorists and nutjobs and howls for the sane and law abiding to surrender their means of defense.

There's a pattern, there.

Remember, this is BHO's last big 'legacy' point (and I would not put it past certain people to allow operations to proceed instead of interdicting them, nor to tweak the potential perpetrators of others.

and the ever present crisis drills...

Three or four years ago, an old boyfriend gave me a gun for self protection.

The only thing is; I’m afraid of it. (Stupid. I know)
Growing up in Texas, my father gave me a 22 rifle and I was never afraid of it, but somehow the pistol frightens me.
It needs cleaning badly, but I haven’t touched it in all these years. I guess I’m afraid it will go off or something.
I wouldn’t know the first thing about cleaning it anyway.

If somebody got after me, and I fired it, would it explode or something for having not been cleaned?
I feel safer having it around, and I guess I’m hoping if somebody got after me I could frighten them off by just pointing it at them. :)

.

What an inspirational article!

They're having a gun show right down the street from my home tomorrow.

The NYT, combined with the terrorists in CA, have inspired me to do some shopping there.

How's that for backlash, you authoritarian socialist bastards?

The impression I’m getting lately is that the more dangerous our world becomes, the more the gun grabbers are out in force.

That’s the logic I just don’t get. The world is a more dangerous place. There are those who wish to kill us or subjugate us based on an ideology. There were just two highly visible and deadly terrorist attacks within the last 30 days. The terrorists indiscriminately killed people who were doing nothing more than going about their daily lives. And they want ME to lessen my ability to protect myself and my family?

I agree entirely with your comments about ‘decency’. I also feel that attacking the second amendment is exactly a response the Jihadists would like to see.

What makes this author think the government can prevent terrorists from getting guns any more than it has stopped druggies from getting drugs?

Twenty years ago, a NYT opinion page was a huge deal. Today? Not so much. Let’s see . . . Dims read it and it is popular in lower New York state. OK.

Find a friendly local gunshop with a gun range, and take the gun down there. Someone there will clean it for you and will be happy to train you how to use it. And, no, the gun would not blow up if you tried to use it...

Not knowing what kind of pistol (revolver or semiauto), I couldn’t help you.
If you can find the make and model, look up on YouTube how to clean.
If you can’t, try to post a picture of it on this thread, and I’ll try to tell you what kind, and find a video for you when I get home from work in about an hour.
