How many, how powerful a gun do you need and how much ammo?

Posted on 12/06/2015 6:35:04 PM PST by Jim Robinson

Hard to say. How many and how powerful were the guns used to bring down the two Muslim terrorists in San Bernardino?

What if it is just you standing in defense of your family?

You don’t lose gunfights because you have too much firepower.

I was asked which was my favorite gun. I replied, the one I am shooting at that particular moment.

I’m never more than 3 seconds away from at least one loaded firearm in my home or vehicles.

After tonight’s poop volcano speech...

I topped off ALL of my mags.

I like .45 for bringing hitting power for a handgun. There’s just something about a .45 that reaches out and says ‘MERICA!!! For a rifle, any rifle round better than a .22Lr should get people’s attention.

Really it’s subjected to what one can wield effectively. Training makes it all the more effective.

The key is to have one available at the moment of truth. The state of California made it impossible for the poor murdered souls. Whatever you can keep closest to you or on you is best.

I will digress and wish my .40 glock would be present.

Jim,
Since you created a last stand scenario in your question, I’d go with a .223 shooting a soft point staying inside 300 yards. Past 300 yds I’d want a .308

To protect my family, I need nuclear weapons or anything else I can get my hands on. I really don’t care what the rules and regulations are. I will be legal or illegal to protect them. Screw the consequences.

I would like to have a Remington 870 or 1187 with extended magazine and loaded with something larger than number 4 shot.

An AR-15 would be nice too. For a pistol, it would be a Glock 10mm full size. I can’t recall the model number off hand.

Lots of spare mags for the rifle and pistol and lots of spare shells for the shotgun.

As it is, I had to sell nearly all my guns a few years ago and have to make do with a Winchester Defender loaded with 00Buck. I have changed my mind on the shotgun load many times but always go back to the buckshot.

I really no longer have a rifle well suited to self defense and would have to make do with my old 98 Mauser in 8mm.

I have two Brownign Hi-Powers right beside me right now. within easy reach are maybe a dozen Mec-Gar and other high capacity mags.

I am probably OK except I need to get another rifle.

If you’re gonna die you may as well at least put up a fight.

The correct answer is “as many as I want, as powerful as I like, and as much ammo as I can afford, or think I’ll ever EVER need.”

I can tell you that there are people who have never bought a firearm before buying now.

Mindset of “be polite and have a plan to kill everyone you meet”

Have good situational awareness.

Practice a lot with sidearm and battle rifle. Blood them if you can (mine have been)

1. You need as powerful a weapon as you can control and service your targets efficiently and quickly.

2. There’s no such thing as enough ammo.

Going by memory here, so be nice. It might have been earlier, or later in our history. Memory isn’t a good source, but here’s what I do believe I remember.

At a point in our history the left tipped the scales in our bureaucracies. The Congress in the sixties if I recall correctly under Democrat majority abdicated responsibilities of writing our laws to those bureaucracies. It’s been the frog in the pot since that time, and now it’s ready to, if not already boiling.

I believe it was before Jimmah Cahtah, so probably the great ego L.B. Johnson’s era.

Your target his a man, and if he's wearing body armor, then your target is to cut his spinal cord, just below the brain,
If you're facing him directly, aim for his nose, just below the eyes.

Caliber ?
Anything large enough to do the job; i.e. ... (cheapest) 7.62x39, or.40 or .45 in hollow point.

Ammo amount ?
Once all hell breaks loose, ammo will be impossible to get; so a minimum of 3,000 rounds for a start.

I look at it like this.

A gun is a tool. You need the right type of tool for any given situation.

Close quarters combat in a dwelling with other innocent people around- 12 gauge 18” barrel, non magnum shells.

In the woods on a trail where there might be a bear, .44 magnum revolver.

General purpose pistol, Springfield xd 40 cal.

Deer rifle, scoped 30/ 30 lever action Winchester. Love this old gun.

Small game hunting if I needed to survive off the land- first choice .177 scoped break barrel air rifle. Don’t wanna use a precious .22 bullet if I don’t have to.

If I do have to use a precious .22 cal bullet, Ruger sr22, fun rifle, red dot scope very accurate.

And, lastly in case the SHTF, ar-15, because that is America’s rifle, and I am an American. Simple as that.

Now as far as how much ammo, for the small game and deer weapons, enough to survive on for a long time.

Pistol ammo, a decent amount, shouldn’t need too much of that hopefully. If I do, things have obviously gone very wrong.

223., hmmm, hopefully I have more than I’ll ever need on that. Used to have about 700 hundred rounds before that boat accident. I also had about another 300, but I spent those at the range familiarizing myself with the weapon.

Far as shells go, maybe about 100. It’s not a hunting shotgun, strictly for fort defense, and so far, so good on that.

Get a 9mm or .40 Glock for a handgun and an AR-15 type rifle that takes standard NATO ammo. If it all goes to hell next summer you want pieces for which the ammo is relatively common and reloadable. That’s the base set. Garnish to taste.

Reports said they were wearing body armor. Any idea of the type?

From what I have been reading they did not have body armor, they were just wearing tactical style clothing.

The press is so liberal they always talk and write about body armor being present as soon as they see any type of tactical vest. I believe they do know the difference and actually lie to us to further their leftist agenda.
