There is a buzz on social media today about a new Muslim Reform Movement, and any of you are wondering what this is all about. Here is some background: The Paris terrorism attacks seemed to be the last straw for many Muslims like us who abhor violence in the name of our faith.

...

If 9/11 wasn’t the last straw, then Paris isn’t going to make any difference.

Can Dr. Jasser make a case that is convincing to Muslims?

If they do as you say, then both mohammad and allah will be deleted from Islam., leaving only the original first given half - repudiated by mohammad) with its plagiarisms from Christianity and Judaism. Even that is impossible, since the first half was given by allah to mohammad - both of whom are now deleted.

Burn and delete every single copy of their warbook koran. Treat islam like we did with Nazism and make it go away.

I’m surprised we don’t have patriots burning their koran openly in these times. It could be used as bait for hunting koranimals.

“he is clearly an apostate muslim “

So What? If you want to label him that, fine.
What he’s doing is admirable. He’s trying to start grassroots movement. More power to him!

So they are disavowing the life example of their founder Mohammed? That’s like a bunch of Christians going against the personal example and teaching of Jesus.

Unfortunately we’ll only know they’re serious when ISIS starts lopping a few of their heads off.

When Muslims are able to say that Mohammed (”The Perfect Man”) was highly flawed and committed numerous cruel and violent acts, I will begin to believe they are reforming. Christians and Jews (I assume) are able to see, for example, Moses and David this way. Accept the good but do not emulate the bad.

You can not reform a religion that tells you to kill and enslave. More muslim lies.

I admire people who want to forge peace in the face of opposition, but the way I read this is that these folks are to Muslims as Unitarians are to Christians.
That is - they aren't.
They may want to cling to some of the cultural aspects of their muslim upbringing - but they certainly do not want to follow the Koran (God bless them).

This initiative was started by Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, an ex-naval officer of the US Navy and now a physician. He invited thinkers, academics, activists and two imams from Copenhagen, London, Ottawa, Toronto, Phoenix, Philadelphia and Portland to gather for a 24-hour summit. We discussed and debated what we could do to go beyond words and start taking some action. After intense talks for two days, in which we debated terminology, ideas and theology, we came up with a declaration and a course of action.

This reeks to me as being similar to the 'Jesus Seminar' Group, where a bunch of scholarly seminarians - who are wise in their own minds - get together to search for the 'Historical Jesus'. I.e., a 'good man', and teacher, but 'certainly not the God-man that the early Church claimed He was' (is)...
A Christian is not going to spend time listening to the Jesus Seminar Group, nor do I suspect Muslims will spend time listening to this Group.

I do not see how these people get pas the giant obstacle called the Koran. People who swear allegiance to a book inspired by Satan are not going to be reformed with gentle nudges. The book needs to be moved to the trash heap, or to the malicious fiction section of the library.

“If 9/11 wasn’t the last straw, then Paris isn’t going to make any difference.”

It was the last straw for Dr Jasser. That’s he started American Islamic Forum for Democracy

Actually I thought I was praising him.

I don’t know if he still is but he was JD Hayworth’s personal MD.

WOW! They’re on the ball, aren’t they? Only took 14 years after 9/11 and all the terrorist acts/murders since.
