I’ve sometimes observed that The Lord never told a prophet to have the king establish some Royal Department for Harvesting Standards and Measuring Field Corners. So while it is clear He wanted His people to take it upon themselves to look after the poor, the widow, orphan or stranger it can also be clear that He actually, literally wanted them to step up to the proverbial plate themselves to do so ... never mentioning any scheme to pass the shekel off on some government.
By contrast, I occasionally suspect that many a modern so-called “progressive”, as found here in the States, might imagine that if only old Ahab had taken Naboth’s field for a vegetable garden to feed Samaria’s poor (rather than his own belly, as was the case) he might have been a model socially progressive ruler ... taking from one to give to others.

This essay is a sound condemnation of a significant segment of the world’s Jewish community and I deeply appreciate your intellectual integrity and intellectual honesty in submitting it for broader comment. This one small action speaks so highly of Free Republic’s Jewish community that I feel it deserves proper recognition.
Not everyone is willing to submit their own dirty laundry to public comment. That you do so speaks so very highly of your collective character that I find myself humbled.
