To a battle of wits, Sen. Ed Markey comes unarmed.
Billy Bulger used to say that every year when Markey would stumble into the St. Patrickâs Day breakfast in Southie with â¨bad hair and worse jokes. Markey has the IQ of a soft-boiled egg, as we saw yet again Tuesday at a Senate subcommittee hearing.
How bad was it? He got so flummoxed by two witnesses taking over his Senate hearing that he literally began foaming at the mouth.
Talk about a sheep in sheepâs clothing. I havenât seen Markey this confused since 1984, when TV reporter Andy Hiller asked him on camera which side the U.S. was on in Nicaragua and â¨El Salvador. (He didnât have a clue.)
His main tormentor was Mark Steyn, the great writer, Rush Limbaugh fill-in and occasional guest on my show. Steyn was brought in by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, basically to knock a few heads, blockheads, on the subject of so-called climate change.
What a profile in courage Markey is. Remember that his first vote in the Senate in 2013 was âPresent.â
Now Markey was scoffing â¨at another âdenierâ witness, â¨Dr. Judith Curry, after which he cut her off.
âHave you read my testiÂmony?â she asked the former â¨ice-cream truck driver once known in Malden as âMr. Frosty.â âHave you read my testimony?â
The blood drained from Markeyâs face. Point of order â no trick questions!
âWhy canât she respond?â Steyn yelled. âYou impugned her integrity!â
Markey started sputtering ⦠â97 percent of scientists ⦠warmest year ever ⦠trend is straight up.â
Steyn interrupted again: âDo you know what the Little Ice Age was, Senator?â
The Little Ice Age! Thatâs â¨like waving a crucifix, a silver bullet and a clove of garlic â¨in Draculaâs face all at once.
Markey was in full panic mode now. He began babbling inane gibberish about the winter of â15, the coldest â¨and snowiest ever in Boston, â¨110 inches of global warming.
Markey was fee-fi-foaming at the mouth now.
âThe warming of the ocean â¨intensifies the amount of precipitation when Arctic air hits that water.â
In other words, the warmer it gets, the colder it gets, not to mention snowier. Whatever you say, Mr. Frosty.
Steyn knew now that he had Markey on the ropes. Steyn â¨began interrupting him with one pointed barb after another.
Again, remember, Steyn was the witness, and he had â¨hijacked the hearing from a solon â¨whoâs been in Congress since 1976.
âDo you know what the winters were like at PlyÂmouth Rock, Senator?â
âWell, here is the thing. We ââ
âYou donât. How long has your family been in Massachusetts?â
âWe are new arrivals and I have to admit ââ
âYou should have been in there in 1750.â
At the end, they passed the hat to get the â¨junior senator cab fare back to the gated community he calls home in Maryland.
All I can say is, donât blame me, I voted for Steve Lynch. And then I voted for â¨Gabriel Gomez.
“...the IQ of a soft-boiled egg...”
I choked on my coffee. LOL, Howie.
After seeing steyn and curry destroy him, I think Markey rivals Biden for stupidest man in DC
I would have paid to see that! If you find it on YT or someplace, pls cc me.
Steyn (related) ping.
To to the howie Carr link. Set down your coffee first
Search YouTube “sentedcruz”.
I think someone posted the link to the entire hearing the other day...
Yeah, Steyn was ready for him and let him have it real good.
I love the “97% of scientists” global warming talking point.
97% of scientists will say anything if their gravy train (federal grant) depends on it.
Robert Sheldrake explains why “science” spews out so much nonsense:

NOW you tell me!
Both Steyn and Dr Curry videos are great; thanks for the link.
Thanks for the link.
Is this satire? Or did it really happen?
‘After seeing steyn and curry destroy him, I think Markey rivals Biden for stupidest man in DC’
Close. But neither of them are seriously worried about islands capsizing if too many people stand on them [Hank Johnson] so they’re still only second best.
Senator Markey is either willfully ignorant or profoundly stupid, perhaps both. Steyn lays out the glaring holes in the AGW theory and models and Markey offers “talking points”.
The Senator is the denier. He denies the failure of the AGW models and theory to predict our climate. He denies the dishonesty of the scientists who manipulate (and even destroy) the data and the models in order to deceive the public.
Sadly, the Senator is reduced to name-calling: “deniers”
