Rubio handled it well. He could have been a jerk and hammered Trump for his ignorance, but instead he took the high road. I’m not a Rubio fan, but he earned respect in his response.

I'd agree with that.

When the question was initially asked, exactly what the 'nuclear triad' was didn't click for me. I agree that the way Rubio handled the question was better than I expect of him. Of course, once he mentioned the legs my brain gave me a big "DOH!" The term is not something your average folk use in casual conversation. I'm surprised that Trump didn't clue on it, as I'd assume he's been having briefing on all things military occasionally during the campaign. It's not something I'd hold against him though.

What experience does Rubio have that would make him an expert on nuclear war? Fighting with Jeb Bush?

Then we’ll just have to work harder.

I was NOT a “set up”!

If you listened to half of the radio interviews Hugh has done with Trump, you would know he’s brought up the subject of the nuclear triad MANY times.

Hugh has had Trump on at least a dozen times in the last 6 months.

He was asked this most basic question in AUGUST.

This shows:

- trump makes no effort to learn even the most basic things about being Commander in Chief in Chief.

- trump is fundamentally ignorant about basic defense matters.

- trump’s campaign staff is grossly incompetent. They somehow ignored this question in August, they apparently didn’t even bother to Google it, and then realize, hey, that’s a pretty important basic topic, and we should inform the boss on it. Either they missed it, and trump has proven that he may be a good real estate developer, but he can’t pick good defense policy advisers or he can’t learn the simplest things.

trump is fundamentally disqualified to be president.

Yeah cuz Trump will hit that nuclear button and blow up the whole world including the country he loves, his businesses, and his family. That’s how stupid and reckless he is and we should vote for your guy. Got it.

If that’s the best you got - the ol’ finger on the nuclear button canard - how sad and pathetic. It’s not even a thing.

Sounds like the whole damned nuclear triad needs updating. How much will it cost?

A lot. I don't know that we can actually afford to do all 3 at once. Of the 3, I'd say the B-52s would be my priority since they are older than I am.

Yes! But Hewitt is into asking those types of questions. Hewitt talks about these details but Trump is more concerned about how we are going to pay for it.

It is pointless to talk about these things when we cannot afford it. These are pointless questions when we do not know where the money comes from. Trump is all about making money so we can afford these things.

Hewitt is desperate for ratings.

Well said, both your explanation of the triad concept and the Chief Executive.

Rubio is a pro amnesty POS

I don’t care if he knows how the universe works, if he isn’t going to do what’s necessary re: immigration than he is USELESS.

Talk of the triad pretty much ended with the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Today it is relevant only as a tool to make Don-Don look dangerous in having his finger on the button. Which is nonsense.

The only other reason for this to come up at all is the fact that the Rooskie version of congress gave Poontang the green light to make things glow in the dark in the Mideast if need be.

The desire of the neo-cons and one-worlders to reignite the Cold war is out in the open. Rubio, Crispy, and Face seem itching to start a fight with a country that is or should be our natural ally in fighting the mooslime hordes.

Most Americans see through this tripe thus the bad polling numbers for those three. Whatever our differences on other matters with Russia are; they do not warrant a war with people we are going to need on our side before the end.

JMHO.

>> The biggest problem we have is nuclear — nuclear proliferation and having some maniac, having some madman go out and get a nuclear weapon. That’s in my opinion, that is the single biggest problem that our country faces right now <<

I think the situation even worse than you seem to suggest, because the Iranians could use one ballistic missile and one nuclear weapon to knock out the USA’s power grid, along with most of our solid-state electronics, by staging an EMP blast in the upper atmosphere. They are well on their way to such a capability.

Such an EMP attack would be the end of our country, with 90% or more of us starving to death, whereas your simple “maniac” or “madman” could probably do no more than level a handful of big cities. We could survive the latter, but not the former.

Trump knows what a southern border wall is, and he knows what an illegal alien is, and he also knows what a muslim terrorist is.

So whatever, big Don-o.

It is indeed an outdated term.
The only reason for it was the state of technology of the day driving crisis scenarios and the strategic planning to anticipate them.
Ancient history.

Nobody is going to care that Trump wasn’t up to speed on the “nuclear triad” term. Everybody knows the concept of redundancy in which we have nuclear missiles that are land-based, sea-based, or delivered by bombers, but I would venture that very few people outside of military enthusiasts would recognize that concept by this specific term.

"It still was a stupid, showoff, gotcha question to ask a candidate in a debate to discuss the the merits of those three nuclear delivery systems."

How can it be a "gotcha" question when Hugh Hewitt told Donald Trump he was going to ask him the question two weeks ago when Trump was a guest on Hewitt's radio show?

First I’ve heard of it too. I guess cold war trivia is the criteria for CoC.
