As a submariner from the 70s,I knew what the triad was.

I certainly respect that service. I was in the USNR and served a couple of years active in the Gator Navy from 67-69. That's probably where I'd heard of the nuclear triad, but I didn't recall exactly what it was when Hewitt first used the term.

Not sure I believe folks who act like it's some common term on par with Mutually Assured Destruction, which most everyone would have heard at one time or another, if they were at least in middle school during the Cold War.

Donald Trump Previews Saturday Night Live (Hugh Hewitt interview, November 5, 2015)

Hugh Hewitt: I think we have to have bomber, but I will probably be bringing this up in Las Vegas, and I want you to be ready for it, along with all of the other candidates, because I think we need to have a national security conversation, don't we, on that debate stage?

Hugh Hewitt has coddled Trump, not played gotcha with him.

The question on nuclear modernization is a general question on the military budget, not detailed and specialized questions.

BS. The various capabilities of those three nuclear delivery systems are very technical and specialized. And OMB prepares the budget and how much input any given president might have can vary enormously.

These recommendations would come from the Pentagon and Join Chiefs, and the president would just review the recommendations and make a decision, or accept whatever was recommended.

I doubt one primary voter in 100 has ever given one thought to the nuclear triad. As I've said several times: Hugh Hewitt showing his ass, asking questions that don't belong in that forum.

He was asked this most basic question in AUGUST.

This shows:

-- trump makes no effort to learn even the most basic things about being Commander in Chief in Chief.

-- trump is fundamentally ignorant about basic defense matters.

-- trump's campaign staff is grossly incompetent. They somehow ignored this question in August, they apparently didn't even bother to Google it, and then realize, hey, that's a pretty important basic topic, and we should inform the boss on it. Either they missed it, and trump has proven that he may be a good real estate developer, but he can't pick good defense policy advisers or he can't learn the simplest things.

trump is fundamentally disqualified to be president.

BUMP

Respected FRiends, remember that this is the man who has switched parties 3 times since Cruz got out of high school, and who eight years ago said:

"Hillary's a great friend of mine. Her husband is a great friend of mine. They're fantastic people. I mean, they're -- you know, the thing, they get a bad knock. She's a very nice woman. People think, tough, tough. And I guess she's tough, but she's a very nice woman. And he's a very nice guy. We know all about the smarts, and how smart they are, and all, but they are good people."

Just because he can amass wealth, doesn't mean he doesn't have poor judgment.

If elected, when taking office Trump will have the least knowledge about nuclear weapons of any President since Truman

It's not like Kennedy, Carter, or Reagan ever felt it necessary to take a position on the number and mix of nuclear delivery systems

I don’t think so. It is basic to know the main parts of the nuclear deterrence, but to know that this is called “nuclear triad” is not important.

Presidents sometimes take positions on specialized defense matters while in office with all the advisers and experts to draw upon. Candidates don't have all that information at their disposal.

But I do recall that JFK and his campaign invented a phony "missile gap" which they used against Nixon during the 1960 campaign.

I like you Finny, and you know I respect you, but don’t ping me to your Trump bashing posts.

He’s my candidate, and I won’t be swayed to abandon him. I’m past arguing about it.

Now we’re clear on who doesn’t know what their talking about.

You’ve been told that Hugh & Trump have discussed the triad before and you continue to pretend it was a set up.

Then you pretend that current spending priorities are immutable.

Bye....
