Face It: Trump's The True GOP Favorite Now
nydailynews.com ^ | December 20, 2015 | JONATHAN ALLEN

There's something the chattering classes along the Acela Corridor don't want to say about Donald Trump: He's the overwhelming favorite to win the Republican presidential nomination.

For the Republican Party's conservative - in more ways than one - establishment, it's as if admitting that will make it come true. So instead, they squabble over who the "real front-runner is, whether it's Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz. Perhaps, the parlor wisdom holds, a dark horse like Chris Christie can overtake the field at the New Hampshire turn.

For the first few months, the Trump deniers - loud on national television, insistent on Twitter and ever-present in the nation's leading print and digital outlets - could be called wishful thinkers. With the primaries just around the corner, as many otherwise smart political analysts keep waiting, aching, for conventional order to be restored, it's time to call them what they are: delusional.

Trump is leading national polls by more than 20 points in a field with more than a dozen candidates.

He's sitting on a double-digit lead in New Hampshire, holds a 20-point edge in South Carolina and runs 27 points ahead of his nearest competitor in Georgia. Though he's probably going to lose Iowa's first-in-the-nation caucus to Cruz, who's leading in the polls there, Trump could finish a strong second.

He's first or near it in Nevada, Florida, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Missouri and Ohio. He's in the lead in nearly every state that has been polled. All those leads have held up after a dozen predicted collapses.

To anyone looking honestly at the hard numbers, Trump's lead in the Republican primary looks a lot like Hillary Clinton's in the Democratic primary. And no one is debating who will "really win" on the Democratic side.

Debates will be tricky for Anyone facing “The Grinch who lost her emails”.

She will be fed softball questions. Her campaign will coordinate with the Networks (including Fox) the questions. Fox would rather see Clinton win than Cruz or Trump.

The questions to Trump would be worded to leaving Clinton avenues to attack. THey will also focus on details, which Trump isn’t good with, he does sweeping generalities.

only because the debate moderators never press her on her vague, canned answers

What do you think the "moderators" are there for?

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I was in a TV quiz show. I won $1200, two electric razors, and a suitcase.

The whole production was scripted, from beginning to end. The "contestants" didn't get a copy of the script, of course, but the producer had complete information (from the pre-contest tests) so that questions to the scripted "winner" were completely designed to produce the desired result.

—— He will work to form new coalitions ——

That is to say,he will make deals

I feel pretty sure, that he has made an offer to cruz that has not been accepted. the time is not right

Why is it that there is no talk about Cruz hitting a ceiling since he clearly appeals to the hard right and beyond? Trump gets some hard right (not much of the “beyond” and most of his support from moderates and even liberals. Who has a hard ceiling? Ted Cruz. Not even his most solid supporter can make the case Cruz can pick up moderate of liberal Republicans, Blacks or blue collar Democrats that don’t remember Reagan.

Well, there are two schools of thought. Trump belongs to the school that says "It's what you know, not who you know, that really matters."

The USA needs that philosophy today. The big time funding matters not.

.........but I must say she does fairly well on the debate stage.

I can just imagine the moderator asking Trump:

Moderator - What is your reaction to Mrs. Clinton's stated position of our ME policy?

Trump - That is dumb and so is she. Plus she gets drunk and trips on her own feet......

Built in advantages? Only 23% of likely voters think the country is on the right track. Obama’s approval is at 42%.

Any republican will beat her.

She was not even able to win the dem nomination the last time she ran. She is a very weak candidate.

I was really pulling for Bernie. He’s got a better record on the 2A and would have mobilized every asset in the GOP’s arsenal given his socialist mature. I think big money thinks he can “work with” Hillary and will not mobilize against her.

Hillary will probably pick Paul Ryan as her VP.

What do you think the "moderators" are there for?

Right you are. And what really bothers me is how the GOP just accepts this in the general election debates. The moderators are all - without exception - left of center. Some are far left of center.

You'd think for every leftie moderator, the GOP would insist on someone like Rush or Levin. Wait a minute...we're talking about the Uniparty GOPe here. Never mind.

Another reason for me to go Trump over Cruz is that the GOPee pukes in DC need to be rattled and herded into legislating correct policies.
Trump has that bombast factor to deliver the heavy hand. Cruz has some of that too but he’s one of their own and they don’t fear him nearly as much vs a Trump bull stomping around in their Chyyynaaaa shop.

All the experts and ‘opinion makers’ cannot see the forest for the trees. The are chasing their tails in desperation hoping they can say something the will change reality. The bottom line is that, love him or hate him, Trump is clearly a leader. No one else comes close.

I think Cruz would skewer Hillary better than Trump,...........

If Trump was to belittle her on stage as he did Yeb, she would have a coronary or chug a pint of booze during the first break and be shitfaced drunk for the balance of the debate.............

she is superficial and can’t really think

like many women she memorizes everything and spews out the memory. when it comes time to making a rational decision based on disparate pieces available, she will search in vain for a canned solution that is not really applicable.

No, I really disagree. She pretty much starts with about 170 electoral votes. She’s popular with her constituency, and most of those are pleased with many of the liberal victories on Obama’s watch. She has the media shill advantage. She’s been good at all the debates. She routinely out polls Republicans in general election match ups.

You don’t have to sell me on her defects, but to believe she is easy to beat is not wise.
