It's Donald Trump in Illinois.
Trump, at 30 percent, is the top GOP presidential candidate in Illinois, according to a new poll, with double the points of Sens. Ted Cruz at 15 percent and Marco Rubio at 13 percent.
The billionaire real estate tycoon and reality show star, the national front-runner, polls first in Cook County, the collar counties of Lake, DuPage, Will, Kane and McHenry and in downstate Illinois, according to results shared with the Chicago Sun-Times.
GOP pollster Joe Caccitolo, who runs Compass Consulting, conducted the automated telephone survey of 2,104 likely Republican voters last Wednesday, the day after the fifth Republican debate in Las Vegas. More on the methodology below.
After Trump and the senators from Texas and Florida, in Illinois it's former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 7 percent; retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie at 6 percent; Ohio Gov. John Kasich at 3 percent; former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul at 2 percent.
Asked, "if the primary election for president was held today, for whom would you vote," 11 percent were undecided.
And while the entire field consists of other contenders not included in the poll -- South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham; former New York Gov. George Pataki; former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum -- only 2 percent said their choice was for another candidate.
Caccitolo's polling snapshot comes three months before Illinois' March 15 primary and tracks the popularity of Trump in national polls as the crowded GOP field heads toward the first presidential vote in Iowa on Feb. 1.

Wait, there are Republcans in Cook county?
Really?
I know that there is a case to be made, but I am not anti-atheist in principle. As long as they leave well enough alone, I’m fine with their alternative view. It’s when they start forcing their anti-religion on others that it get tedious for me.
I agree, and I’d even say that if an Islamist exists in your country, even if he’ the only one, he’ll still treat you like you’re a second class citizen.
Trump is the only real conservative in this race, lives the Constitution.
1st Amendment - refuses to be politically correct, says what’s on his mind and double-dares anyone to stop him’
2nd Amendment - has carry permit, touts right to bear arms at every rally
10th Amendment - for returning education, healthcare, and others to the states.
He is the ONLY one who walks the walk. Everyone else including Cruz still measuring each word so as not to cause a ruckus.
1822 was 46 years after 1776.
Most of the signers were dead by then.
Even if we go back a few years earlier, to the earlier 1800's, a number of the signers had died, or were old men. They weren't going to suddenly become ardent Christmas celebrators.
We can't take our current traditions and assume them to the foundings of our nation.
Well said. I don’t believe there’s a conservative out there that would have done what Donald Trump has done to the liberal media and the GOP establishment. Go Trump!!
Many of Trump's liberal ideas were four years ago or less.
OK, since you doubt me (very foolish indeed), following are actual quotes from Trump:
“If you canât take care of your sick in the country, forget it, itâs all over. ... I believe in universal healthcare.” - Trump, on Larry King Live
On guns: âThe Republicans walk the NRA line and refuse even limited restrictions. I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun.â
On abortion: “I support a woman’s right to choose”
I win. You lose.
You are wrong on every point. I don’t blame you, however, for buying into the huckster’s lies. We are all desperate to defeat the Democrats and end their nefarious reign. But Trump is more liberal than McCain, Romney and Lindsey Graham put together.
No, you FAIL.
Hey Arec, are you still beating your wife, Krim Batwinger? As far as televangeilsts and TV hucksters are concerned, I’ve never been a mark for any one of them, and I still think Trump’s a good bet! Almost nothing of any import would be being discussed today, if it weren’t for Donald Trump leading those discussions. This has been one of the most vital and potentially sea changing elections of my lifetime, and it’s pretty much all due to Trump. Ted Cruz, whom I also like, wouldn’t be talking about walls and immigration status today if he wasn’t force to.
I totally agree. That’s when Cruz lost me.
BTTT.
No we won’t. We like Trump too.
There were some communities, largely Quakers, Presbyterians , and some others who did not celebrate Christmas. Other communities such as Episcopalian, Catholic,Lutheran and others DID celebrate Christmas. The Reformation period in Europe largely dictated which side of the fence the Christmas question was decided. Any community or future state was influenced by the peoples who settled it, i.e. Lutherans were largely German so settlements of Germans/Lutherans celebrated Christmas. Many of the Founding Fathers did celebrate Christmas as “Christmas Recipes” and “Christmas many course meals were recorded.
Grow up and knock it off. If you want to advocate for Cruz, that’s your choice, but calling Trump supporters pathetic just shows that you are.
You mean all those Trump supporters in the national polls live in states? Who knew!
I think I’m going to change my handle to “Crint Eeestwood”. Or not!
