TRUMP EMAIL TOUTS SCHLAFLY'S WND ENDORSEMENT
WND ^ | 12/22/2015

Conservative icon said he's 'the only one who will fight'

Donald Trump sent out an email to his supporters Tuesday night with a link to WND's scoop in which conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly praised the Republican presidential frontrunner as "the last hope for America."

In the email from his campaign, Trump wrote: "I wanted to share the article below written by highly respected conservative, Phyllis Schlafly. Phyllis' support is a testament to my message to Make America Great Again and your enthusiasm to ensure our country is better than it has ever been before.

"Phyllis stated that I am 'the only one who will fight' and it's true. I will fight harder than anyone. This country has been so great to me and I want to do something really special in return. We are going to rebuild the American Dream and make it bigger and better and stronger than ever before for each and every one of you."

So how many people click on the links in a Trump email?

A few hours after it was sent, the original news story was receiving more than 3,000 clicks per hour from the campaign announcement.

In Schlafly's interview, first published Sunday night, she harshly criticized the Republican Congress for passing the $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill last week.

"I think the people are going to react by electing Donald Trump," she offered. "It sounds like Donald Trump is the only one who has any fight in him. He will fight for the issues that we really care about and are very hot at the present time, such as the immigration issue. I don't see anyone else who's eager to fight."

I understand what she's saying, and so do a lot of conservatives.

As I observed, what she is saying is clearly preposterous. If it needs editing to become sensible then I do not understand why it is "over the top" to point the truth out.

I was with you until the last two paragraphs, I think you overestimate the effect Donald Trump has had on the race and underestimate the effect Ted Cruz has had in pointing the way by fighting the fight. Cruz showed the world what could be done. Donald Trump has come on stage and talked about it.

Yes he has. We wouldn’t even see discussion of this without him forcing it.

Absolutely. These people in D.C. never had any intention of securing our borders or their unsafe, destructive chain-immigration policies.

Yes, and I have subsequently posted that the prediction has not yet been fulfilled. We might find that it is at least partially fulfilled in Iowa. Leapfrog to North Carolina and that might prove to be a pivotal test.

But I stipulate, the prediction about Trump topping and fading has not occurred in the national polls although it seems to have occurred in Iowa. The prediction concerning the rise of Ted Cruz is obviously being fulfilled as we speak.

The prediction about Carson fading was obvious.

The prediction that the race would come down to Trump and Cruz would seem to be solid.

Yes!! This is what I’ve been saying (well, I’ve been saying ‘in decades’ - but I like your ‘in modern history’ much better!)!!!

Come on, the article is about Trump allegedly being the only one who will fight and Phyllis Schaffely specifically cited immigration:

He [Donald Trump] will fight for the issues that we really care about and are very hot at the present time, such as the immigration.I don't see anyone else who's eager to fight."

Cruz obviously did fight on immigration, so her assertion is factually false and preposterous. You countered by saying, Cruz accomplished nothing. I offered, Donald Trump has done nothing but campaign.

Senator Sessions thinks that Ted Cruz accomplished a great deal fighting immigration.

Donald Trump has done nothing but talk.

Too many conservatives confuse bombast with accomplishment.

Yes!

Go Trump!!

I received this email. Was so glad to see Trump referencing Schlafly’s article.

She’s 100% spot on, btw :)

Sour grapes. If she had endorsed Ted Cruz, we would be hearing “Hail Phyliss,” for her great judgment. Etc. Don’t deny it.

Actually there is a very good case to be made that Trump will be destroyed by the PC media in the general election when the audience is not conservatives with pent-up anger at the media but Democrats and mushy independents who, just want to get along, who just want to get things done in Washington.

What we see so far in Trump is a reflection of intense anger by a subset of a subset.

As to Ted Cruz, he has never put a foot down wrong, I know of no single gaffe that the man has ever committed and I would welcome you posting such an example. The idea that Cruz will be tripped up by the media has no foundation in history.

Moreover, Cruz will not offend the mushy middle as Trump does every time he exhales.

I agree. I don’t have a problem with her endorsing Trump, but to say he is the only one who will

———————————————/-——————————————————————————————————

All other candidates, unfortunately, are beholden, to some degree or another, to large donors. They can only fight as far as that checkbook will allow them to. Trump, for all his foibles, can go as far as he wants.

Yes, and I have subsequently posted that the prediction has not yet been fulfilled.

And they're not going to be filled. What seems to have occurred is just the opposite, with the numbers going up as I suspected. In addition, Trumps numbers are are likely being underestimated. Regardless, these are historic numbers, huge historic audiences and a historic tight bond between a candidate and tens of millions of his supporters from all races.

Outside of something criminal occurring, I strongly expect Trump will be the next president.

To not see the difference in intensity of presentation; one being an intellectual, and one a man of action, requires no editing. It does take a willingness to see it, and differentiate. Criticizing her because she sees a truth you can't, or don't want to, doesn't help anyone. "Over the top" may not have described it well, you don't agree with her, and you should have left it at that.

I see what she's saying, I'm sorry you don't, and with that, we'll simply disagree.

I'm going to double down, without Trump Cruz could not have muscled his way as high as he is.

For many of the reasons you like Cruz, I do as well, he is still my first choice. That does not prevent me from seeing what Trump has done to the race, and what he has done for the race.

He is the two ton gorilla. He may not last, and if he doesn't he will have paved the way for Cruz. I, for one, appreciate what he has done, win or lose.

As I pointed out in my last reply to you, I agree with much of what you say. At the risk of being misunderstood, in some respects I am more put off by Trump's supporters who should know better than I am by Trump himself.

We see time and again on these threads Trump supporters twisting facts or distorting the record. That makes me angry but I concede that Trump has done much to alter the race. But I do not confuse that with evidence of good character, I do not confuse that with evidence of conservative bona fides. And since I am wary of the man behind the rhetoric, I am equally wary of the perfectly normal human tendency in all of us always to long for a Messiah, the man on horseback.

We saw this in 2008 in the Democrats concerning Barack Obama. It was almost a parody of Messiah worship. We expect that from Democrats, we should not expect it from conservatives.

If Trump is nominated I will support him, I will defend him against every unjust distortion posted by the PC media. But I will nevertheless be wary of what we are getting.

But I will nevertheless be wary of what we are getting.

I agree with that sentiment. He's not been a consistent conservative, not any where near what Cruz has been, on many issues we don't know what to expect. It's why I prefer Cruz.

Like you said, I also will support Trump if wins, and do it with an appearance of whole hearted approval, even if I privately fear we'll get bit by doing so.

For what purpose, electorally, would TRUMP want to share his ticket with Cruz?

I can’t think of anything TRUMP lacks electorally that Cruz could bring to the ticket. Not regionally, not electorally, not issues, not world affairs, national security and the economy that dozens of others could round out with expertise, given these dangerous times.

I simply can not get an answer.

Desperate times call for desperate measures and a FORCE to deal with both.

She knows without him that no pol is the answer.
