JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Missouri residents soon will not be able to use their state driver's licenses as identification to get into most federal facilities, making it at least the fourth state to lose a federal exemption from complying with national proof-of-identity requirements.

Just saw this over at Yahooooooo. Given their penchant for liberal propaganda, I'll let you guys flesh this one out.

I don't know as much as I probably should but sounds like a National I.D. push and all that. I'm sure Captain Obvious applies here.

Sounds like another "gift" from the Bush admin and GOP. Dems didn't control Congress at that point, I don't believe. Now, we have a dictator wannabe in the WH, so naturally they would try to advance a national I.D. Thanks, W.

How come whenever we win one through actual legislation as constitutionally designed, it takes 20 years to be implemented.

This is not a typical liberal vs. conservative issue.

This is a states rights vs. central control issue and privacy vs. security issue.

Some say states should be able to decide for themselves what forms of ID they find satisfactory. The Feds disagree. The think every state's ID should meet certain minimum requirements in order to make sure every person is who their ID says they are. And you can believe that those 'minimum requirements' mean that all state driver's licenses pretty much have to be identical, i.e. National ID Cards.

People who are more concerned about security, regardless of political affiliation, tend to be for Real ID. While libertarians and others more concerned about privacy and states rights disagree.

Of course this whole thing is a farce since very few states require ID to vote, the federal government is allowing thousands in without proper vetting, and in some states illegal aliens can get a 'Real ID'.

These are the basic things that governments should get right, but seem too incompetent and/or corrupt to manage these days.

I go occasionally to the the Federal courthouse in St. Louis. Is that courthouse considered a “federal facility”? What are they going to do, bar everyone from Missouri from entering the courthouse?

Thanks, W.

W. kept the homeland safe after 9/11. But in EVERY other respect he was a disaster. I'd grade him at a D, at best.

Don’t forget that voter registration typically goes with licenses now.

How about Missouri bans the use of any state sanctioned facilities or resources to any Fed licensed individuals or organizations. Get a Missouri ID or get lost!

For the State of Missouri website:

You will need:

To surrender any out-of-state ID cards or licenses to the MO DOR.

Your Social Security number (you do not need to bring in your Social Security card). If you do not have a Social Security number, you need to bring a letter from the SSA regarding your SSN status.

Proof of name, and place and date of birth (e.g. U.S. birth certificate, U.S. passport, or citizenship certificate).

Proof of Missouri residence (e.g. utility bill, pay check, or bank statement). Post office box addresses will not be accepted. You will also need to prove your mailing address if it is different than your physical address.

Proof of any name change, if applicable (e.g. certified marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order).

I don't see the problem.

Oh heh, having moved from Washington to Michigan this last year I can tell you that getting a Michigan drivers license ranks among the most difficult thing in the entire move.
They do not hand these puppies out easily here.
