You have to give Captain Daniel Shays this: When he launched his armed sedition against lawful authority, he at least was invited in. Overnight on Saturday, in an obscure corner of the Oregon wilderness, and contrary to the law, and in defiance of democratic authority, both federal and local, another act of armed sedition was committed. It seems to me that this ought to be a bigger story than, say, the belated prosecution of Bill Cosby, or whatever most recently came out of the mouth of the vulgar talking yam. In a small place in Oregon, the essential compact of the United States of America has come apart.

Bears Repeating Hildy- Many are saying this isn’t the hill to die on- but like you say this has been brewing for a long long time- so the question becomes if not this hill then which hill? The reason the government has become so draconian is because people kept saying ‘this isn’t the hill to die on’ and simply put up with more and m ore and more restriction- the government has been pushing pushing pushing- and the people have been ceding ceding ceding ground, and now we’re in the position we are today because no one took a stand on any hill- Like TXREfugee says below, the minority have always been the only ones to take the necessary stands for this country- winning the little battles everyone says shouldn’t be waged- as well as the larger ones-

OM-Gosh, not a Reichstag fire! If that was to happen the government could rule by dicta! They could simply deem highly unpopular legislation to be passed without debate, set departments and bureaus over the people to make up their own regulations without legislative review or judicial redress and issue executive fiats to control the rights, liberties and freedoms of the people! Please, not a Reichstag Fire!

Yup- and the abuse didn’t stop with the confrontation they had awhile ago- the government had their nose bent and they didn’t like it one bit- and targeted them for further harassment very likely-
Like Hildy said, things have been brewing for awhile- and the last standoff was the match that almost lit bonfire=-
The fact is that most of the western states have a lot of fed land within their borders. It was typically a prerequisite to acknowledge federal jurisdiction/ ownership prior to being recognized as a state.
Don’t see the feds giving up land to states.
