WINTERSET, Iowa - Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz on Monday warned voters that their Second Amendment rights are in jeopardy if they elect Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton this November.
"If Hillary Clinton is elected president, the Supreme Court will rule that no individual American has any individual right to keep and bear arms whatsoever," the Texas senator said. "And the government can make it a felony for you to own a firearm and protect your family."
The GOP candidate and Iowa frontrunner backed up his claim by arguing that the next president will likely be responsible for naming anywhere from one to four Supreme Court justices during his or her tenure.
"We are one justice away from a five-justice, ultra-left wing majority that will tear down our constitutional liberties fundamentally," Cruz said.
That same liberal-run court will also move to take down religious symbols on public property, he added.
"If Hillary Clinton is elected president, we will see the Supreme Court ordering Ten Commandments monuments to be torn down on courthouses and public steps all across this country," Cruz said during a Q&A with evangelical leader James Dobson.
After Cruz warned that the government might make it a felony to own a gun, an audience member at the packed event at the Winterset Stage called out: "Come and take it!"
The crowd cheered and murmured agreement.
"I think Iowa and Texas have some things in common," Cruz joked.
After an already long day, Cruz has one more bus tour campaign stop Monday night - beginning at 10:45 p.m. CST in Missouri Valley.
“We are one justice away from a five-justice, ultra-left wing majority that will tear down our constitutional liberties fundamentally,” Cruz said.
And, on that, he is completely accurate...as I think we ALL can agree.
What I’m curious about is how does this Constitutional whiz propose to defuse the USSC problem. It’s already gone well left of the people. The left knows how to pump little political organs like this, very well.
It’s not like it hasn’t been talked about either e.g. Bork Amendment for one possibility.
Tomorrow the President will take the first step to disarming us.
I don’t think anyone is going to stop him.
Hussein bids fair to have it dismantled before the election.If he were to simply declare the 2Amd repealed no one in Congress or the USSC would say a word in opposition.
Yes, The SCOTUS will, and the SCOTUS will be ignored.
And if Cruz is the nominee, Hillary is a lock.

Cruz is a great man, he’s not perfect.. but then who is?

Cruz will take Hillary down in debates, no question about it. He will win the general election.
Trump is no match for Hillary - she knows foreign policy like the back of her hand, personally knows every foreign leader. All Trump knows is how to twitter in the middle of the night, saying nasty words about people who tick him off, people he thinks do not treat him fairly. Hillary will win every debate with Trump staying with what he does best - calling her the worst secretary of state and her husband attacked women. He is a light weight hustler.
Oh please. Hillary isn’t a “lock.” She’s a tired has-been who isn’t even attracting Democrat enthusiasm.
It’s only the media who say she’s a “lock.”
The same media that told you Jeb! was a “lock.”
This Constitutional whiz knows loads of other Constitutionalist lawyers and judges, knows which ones are for real and wants the real ones. His batting average picking judges will be far higher than those of past Republicans, even Reagan. On the SCOTUS picking front none of the others are nearly as well qualified.
