He is going all in on Iowa because it is his obi wan kenobi, his only hope.
So he had to sacrifice the national audience to get the micro audience of Iowa conservatives.
Those who are standing up for NY values cannot possibly be conservatives. Cruz may not be the next president, but if his not, the next president will be a liberal with liberal NY values.

This is more of a Hail Mary pass, and if it connects, and Cruz wins Iowa, it will have been a good move.
I think Cruz is exactly right that the rest of the country knows what New York values are. Gov. Cuomo made them clear in the last day or two as did de Blasio. Neither thinks there is room in New York for pro-life, pro-second amendment, or conservative people. I agree that Cruz should double down on his comment rather than slink away. Republicans will likely never win NY anyway.
There are good and bad in all groups; natives and late commers.
For example....a whole LOT of people who now live in N.Y. came there from "FLYOVER COUNTRY" and are THE rudest, most liberal, nasty people I have EVER seen.

Just recently Trump called the entire state of Iowa STUPID. Whys isn't that getting the same play?
NYC is like vegas. Fun place to visit, but you’re really glad when you leave that what is there stays there.
And many ex-pat New Yorkers live in Texas and helped put Ted into the Senate. Think that THEY will vote for him again? LOL
Oh, I know that. CA and NY have long been like magnets, drawing in the weirdies, homos, and degenerates from flyover states who didn’t feel comfortable or welcome in their home vicinities. I loved that dynamic. Worked for a good half-century. It helped cleanse my favorite states of much of the riff-raff, improving them all the way.
However, the reverse has been hell.
It probably did with the Des Moines Register. All of the drivebys are NYers.
