The move comes amid growing concern over reforms to Poland's constitutional court and increased control over state media adopted by the conservative, eurosceptic Law and Justice party (PiS), which swept to power in October.

The Socialist and atheistic EU does not want to deviate from its self destructive policies. They must be concerned that other countries will follow the lead by Poland.

Europeans need to throw off the EU dictatorship
(good neighborly relations can be continued without need of such a centralized control bureaucrappy)

The fear here (as envisioned by the Germans) is that state-run public TV councils across the EU might be identified as frauds by the public....if Poland’s gimmick survives the challenge.

All Poland did was say that the five-man state-run TV council wasn’t effective, and they wanted the Treasury Department (who collects the TV tax) to actually manage state-run TV.

For those who might be curious....Germany manages a 77-member TV council...which is considered one of the most marginally capable TV councils in Europe.

“Today we have decided that the Commission will carry out a preliminary assessment on this matter under the rule of law framework,” European Commission vice-president Frans Timmermans said after a special debate on the issue.

“The rule of law is one of our fundamental values,” he said.

Except for the law against rape. That is no longer part of the fundamental values of the EU. Muzzies get a pass on that one.
