Reuters Poll: Trump’s Support Jumps to 40 Percent
Reuters via Breitbart ^ | 01/22/15 | Neil Munro

A new Reuters poll of Republicans shows that GOP frontrunner Donald Trump has expanded his national lead over rivals since his Jan. 19 endorsement by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

The new poll of 2,508 Republicans, taken over several days, showed Trump at 40 percent and Cruz sharply down to 10.5 percent. That's a 29.5-point margin.

Reuters' Jan. 19 results showed Trump at 33 percent to Cruz's 16 percent, which was a 17-point margin.

The Reuters poll is here, and can be adjusted to show the candidates' popularity among various subgroups. For example, Trump scored 38.4 percent among marrieds, 39 percent among people with an income of $50,000 to $70,000, 37 percent among people who earn above $150,000, and 36 percent among people older than 60.

If none of the establishment get out of the race we will know they are going for a brokered convention.

There is no likelihood of a brokered convention. A brokered convention would happen only if no candidate got a majority.

Most of the primaries after March 15 are "winner take all". Even for the states with proportional allocation of delegates, there's a threshold of 10-20%. Then there's "Rule 40", which says no candidate who did not win a majority of delegates in at least 8 states can be nominated on the first ballot -- this was presumably intended to give "Jeb!" an advantage..

It might just turn out that the Establishment outsmarted themselves, with Trump potentially being the ONLY candidate who qualifies under Rule 40.

Someone called Reagan’s economic policies, “Voodoo Economics”.

I think he was Reagan’s running mate. What was his name again?

I've rarely witnessed such bitterness on FR.

Oh well, I hope most of them come to their senses and start fighting against whoever the evil party nominates. I still don't mind Cruz, but those supporters of his that get so maniacal. Blech.

And he was Reagan’s biggest mistake.

Cruz is sinking fast....across the board. Trump hurt him...but....the Nutcase, Glenn Beck, sunk Ted Cruz when he endorsed him!!! I hope the good folks of Iowa have enough common sense and brains not to vote for Ted Cruz. anyone, that knowingly would accept and opt for an endorsement form a “sickie” like Glenn Beck, does not belong in the White House......but, maybe, a good mental institution would do fine!!! GO DONALD TRUMP!!!

I liked Scott Walker at the start of this race, and I still do.

If the VP comes from the non-winners in the primary, I don't think it will be Cruz. Trump can hardly gut him on the citizenship issue, and then put him one heartbeat from the Presidency.

I think the most likely candidate from the primary pool is Carly or Rubio. You'll notice they haven't gone after each other too viciously, at least lately.

But I really think the VP will not be someone we are contemplating now.

Well who knows what Trump will do. I think a GOPe woman. GOPe to help unite the party; a woman to help bring in the women vote. But he could choose someone to "work" with the Congress. Should he go that route Cruz would be a poor choice since Cruz is intensely disliked by he fellow Senators. Also there is he natural born citizen problem so I doubt Trump would want Cruz on the ticket. Also Trump will carry Texas so he does not need Cruzs' help in Texas. I am thinking a GOPe woman governor in a battle ground state.

Susana Martinez?

I am hoping you can deal with it if Trump wins or loses. Because he has not been a great example of political consistency over the years. Good luck with that! If he wins that is.

Nope. Geez people. This is politics. Reagan made the guy who called his most important economic plan “voodoo economics” his veep.

Cruz will either be veep or AG leading to USSC justice. They settled this six months ago in NYC. Totally unrealistic to think that they weren’t going to run the race to win.

Excellent points. And then of course there is the bias. The same people who gave Obama a pass will come after Cruz hammer and tong. It’s frustrating but the that’s just the way it is. This needs to get straightened out ASAP. The sooner the better.

Marsha Blackburn, TN. Still want Trump/Cruz. We need Don to beat the RATS and Ted to handle DC. Dismantle DC.

If Trump wins, I can deal with it if he does not do everything I want.

If he builds a wall, protects us and creates jobs, that go a long way for me.

I understand from both Professor Natelson and Professor Tribe that a state secretary of state can determine Cruz is not eligible and withhold his name from that state’s ballot.

If that happens, then Cruz will have standing to challenge it and bring it to court for decision.

I’ve thought about that, to help get the Trump agenda thru Congress. It is a real possibility for Trumps’ first term. For Trumps second term he will want someone younger. If I were Sessions’ I’d pass on being VP for just one term. Unless Session is planing on retiring soon. So if then I go for it.

Blackburn was a big Boehner supporter.

She, like most fake conservatives talks a good game, but when push
comes to shove, she follows GOPe orders.

Think I’ll pass on Blackburn.

I’m thinking Ann Coulter. Trump/Ann lol. Well that would never work, but maybe Laura Ingram? Save Ann for press secretary.
