A new Reuters poll of Republicans shows that GOP frontrunner Donald Trump has expanded his national lead over rivals since his Jan. 19 endorsement by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
The new poll of 2,508 Republicans, taken over several days, showed Trump at 40 percent and Cruz sharply down to 10.5 percent. That's a 29.5-point margin.
Reuters' Jan. 19 results showed Trump at 33 percent to Cruz's 16 percent, which was a 17-point margin.
The Reuters poll is here, and can be adjusted to show the candidates' popularity among various subgroups. For example, Trump scored 38.4 percent among marrieds, 39 percent among people with an income of $50,000 to $70,000, 37 percent among people who earn above $150,000, and 36 percent among people older than 60.

Cruz has the best organization but Trump has the momentum and most first time cold anger voters. If Trump wins it is game, set, match unless he implodes. If Cruz wins the media will see it as a verification that his supporters at events are only there for the entertainment and he does not have their “real” support. The GOPe will be energized and go all out in New Hampshire to ensure Trump is lower than “expected” in the vote. That sets the GOPe up to turn the tide in the race.
Cruz could win SC and the majority of the SEC primary states in the above occurs but after that he will have difficulty. The GOPe candidate will rise based on the voting from SC and the positioning of the vote in Florida and Ohio. Trump would still be in the mix but it will be hard for him to wind enough delegates to ensure the nomination befor the convention.
If one is a Cruz supporter Iowa is critical. If one is a Trump supporter Iowa is critical and effectively ends the race for the other candidates if he wins. support the candidate of your choice.
I was just guessing which woman DT would pick if he chose a female. I would pick Janice Roberts Brown.
Are we still operating on your theocratic knowledge?
The Bible has some wonderful versus on humility and avoiding sychophantry.
In that case, it’s unlikely to happen. It’s doubtful that a Republican SoS would want to challenge a Republican, even if he’s not GOPe. Dems would be even less inclined. Better, from their POV, to let Cruz go as far as he can, as in, give him enough rope. If he ends up as the nominee or the veep pick, THEN the time is right to make a legal and media circus out of it.
JMO.
If Trump picks ANYONE in the race, I predict he will pick Rubio. But honestly, I don’t think he will pick another politician.
But as VP, Cruz would be President of the Senate, Mich McConnell's boss.
Other than that, Attorney General is a great fit for Cruz.
We still don't know Trumps "DEAL" with Palin?
I agree with you. The only scenario I see it playing out would be a state that has some reason to want Cruz knocked out. That would make more sense if a Bush were in the lead.
I could see it in the general, though, if Cruz were either the nominee or the VP candidate.
A purple state with a democrat SoS might have reason to do just that.
the best possible job for Cruz is supreme court justice.
Nursing home vote!
N. Dakota, Wyoming and Colorado have no primary. Which of Trump's opponents are going to get a majority of delegates in eight of the 53 primary "states?"
Well said
I feel like I'm counting chickens before the eggs hatch.
Interesting analysis. We’ll just have to wait and see.
He is also involved in all the suits that aim to wipe him off a ballot. Rather than seek dismissal on procedural grounds (standing, justiceability, ripeness), he can just argue on the merits. The court might dismiss for procedural reasons on its own volition, but given the huge volume of cases this is going to generate, surely one judge is going to want to make the history books.
Another way to look at just standing, is that it is plaintiff who lacks it, not Cruz.
Kasich. Has experience working with congress and budget. As much as his personality turns me off He has executive expwrience, cracking knowlwge, and did help Newt balance the budget. He would satisfy the establishment and bring in Ohio a purple state.
Senator to Supreme Court Justice is not likely.
Janice Roberts Brown is awesome. I doubt she’s VP material though. Still, I bet she and Cruz, or she and Trump would get along very well.
Walker Secretary of Labor. KaBOOOOOM
