Trump to Cruz: Settle eligibility question or 'get out' of the race

Donald Trump stepped up his attack on Ted Cruz on Monday, tweeting that the Texas senator needs to "either settle his problem" of having been born in Canada or leave the race.

"It's time for Ted Cruz to either settle his problem with the FACT that he was born in Canada and was a citizen of Canada, or get out of race," Trump tweeted Monday morning, on the heels of Fox News polls released over the weekend that showed him with double-digit leads over Cruz in both Iowa and New Hampshire.

Trump has insisted over the course of the last month that Cruz needs to tackle the issue of his eligibility because he was born in Calgary, Canada, despite Cruz's assertions that he is eligible based on the fact that his mother was born in the United States. Cruz renounced his dual Canadian citizenship in 2014, a fact that Trump has frequently pointed out as cause for concern.

This has been resolved in favor of Cruz by far more people than still question it.

Who, the people at National Review? Levin? Come on.

That's not a possibility. Trump loves America too much to do that. And Trumps ego wouldn't allow it either.

Why Trump is a conservative

  1. Pro life since at least 2011, wanted to ban partial birth abortion as far back as 2000.
  2. Says no funds for Planned Parenthood, while they do abortions.

  4. Pro capital punishment "Capital punishment isn't uncivilized; murderers living is"
  5. Hold Judges accountable
  6. Opposes "Common core is a disaster" Teach citizenship, quit "dumbing down".
  7. Anti education unions (2000)
  8. For school choice

  12. On Environment "Good development enhances the environment"
  13. Stressed the importance of a strong family & culture of life (2015)
  14. Supports Israel
  15. Opposes Iran deal and letting Iran obtain the bomb.
  16. Wants to crush ISIS quickly.
  17. Wants a military so strong no one will challenge us.
  18. Against unbalanced trade deals that kill American jobs.
  19. Against warrant-less government surveillance of citizens.
  20. Is against having a high national debt. Warns that $24T is a point of no return.
  21. Againt gun control
  22. For assault weapon ban but says the AR-15 shouldn't be considered an assault weapon.
  23. Wants to repeal Obamacare and replace it with market driven polices and increased competition among insurance companies.
  24. Wants to increase military spending.
  25. Will close the border to illegals
  26. Will send the criminals and sponges back.
  27. Will deport all illegals but will let the hard working ones go through the legal process to come back.
  28. Against Anchor babies
  29. Knows unemployment is much higher than official stats.
  30. Will bring jobs back through better trade negotiation.
  31. Attended military academy and Wharton Business School.
  32. Stood up for Birthers and challenged Obama on his fraud.
  33. Believes USA is "the greatest force for freedom the world has ever known"
  34. Wants to honor commitments on Social Security and Medicare, which we can afford to do if he gets the economy going full steam.
  35. Wants to reduce the fraud in disability and other programs.

Who is Cruz going to sue. He can’t sue himself. Explain to me exactly how he gets this issue in front of a court. Are you an attorney? Because I would love to read your expertise on this issue?

It’s not resolvable. This is why trump made the statement.

Once again we see how selectively animated people like Trump can get. When it comes to Obama and his eligibility? Trump is nowhere to be found and is willing to remain sheepish on the topic.

“This has been resolved in favor of Cruz by far more people than still question it.”

Sorry but courts decide cases not political pundits.

“It is the only weapon The Don has apparently.”

Who’s at 40% and who’s at 10%?

Cruz needs to bring up the fact that “many, many people” are asking him about Trumps age. Cruz isn’t doing it but “a lot of people, credible people, people you would know” are questioning his age and health. Donald is elderly, nothing wrong with that just saying. We need complete medical records before he continues campaigning. He looks very humpbacked and kind of frail. His gut is fairly large and protrudes extensively. He also has strange white bags under his eyes. I’m not the one saying it but people are questioning whether a senior citizen who appears to have some major health problems should be our president. He might not make past a couple of years.

Also, a lot and I mean a lot of people are asking me about the >400 pages of records that are being held by the Clinton foundation. A lot of people, good people, people you would know and respect are saying there could be some really bad news in those documents. Things in those documents that would disqualify him in the minds of the public and would cost the Republicans the election big time and I mean big time. He needs to clear this up now and not let it continue to fester. I am asking Donald to go to court immediately and get a ruling on the immediate release of the Clinton foundation documents regarding his dealings with the Clinton Foundation.

Release the medical records now! Release the Clinton Foundation documents now!
I’m not saying he should drop out but a lot of credible people, people you would know are making an issue out of this. I’ve heard some people (people you would know) have suggested he should drop out now if his health and dealings with the Clintons are as bad as people are saying.

It’s pretty clear that this isn’t settled law. Constitutional scholars are in disagreement. Cruz needs to guarantee that the Dems AND Republicans cant and won’t pull a fast one if he’s the nominee. Republican establishment types are salivating at this. They know if Cruz is the nominee they have the power to disallow him as a candidate based on this. And then guess who is waiting in the wings? Jeb.

They don’t need to make any move at all.

Any doubt over the matter exists for Ted and Ted only.

He will either choose to address it or let it fester, but I’m not sure that he can address it it an manner that puts it to rest entirely.

The issue is hurting Cruz (some)- so an opponent would be STUPID to get it settled.
An ally would be helping him which would be SMART.

Look up Declaratory Judgement.

It's too late though. Someone else has sued him so he can't clear it up until the lawsuit is resolved.

It is NOT Trump’s job to settle this issue!

Cruz should do the responsible thing and get a declaratory judgement, to avoid potential legal challenges — it is the very least he should do for his supporters — as Trump has pointed out.

BTW, Cruz’s and Levin’s legal opinions are just that, OPINIONS. They are not a substitute to a declaratory judgement which has far greater legal applicability than “legal experts” opinions.

For the love of God and country, do the right thing Ted!

You mean the people at National Review don't call the shots? Maybe Beck to put on a mock court and declare him good to go.

>> Why throw Cruz a life preserver when he hasn’t asked for one.

Suing him would be throwing him a life preserver?

Now there’s a novel legal concept. Please explain it to me.

Oh, wait, I get it. You realize that this case has no merit. Trump sues, Cruz wins! Yeah, you’re right. Suing him would screw Donny! Life preserver to Ted.

Therefore, Ted should save his time and money and just continue to ignore Donny and his birther nonsense. Just like he’s doing! I KNEW he was smart! GO TED!

I’ll vote for Ted if he gets it, but this issue does give me some level of uneasiness. I know Trump is mostly just pushing buttons here, but I agree, it would be nice if it were settled once and for all. I have no idea how the courts would come down... the idea of an American President who is self-admittedly born in another country as one of their citizens is just alien to me (no pun intended).

“A fair point. So why doesn’t Donny man up and bring the lawsuit instead of just sitting in bed playing with his Tweeter over it?”

Why can’t Cruz man up and take it to the courts? The burden of proof is his.
