Donald Trump attacks evangelical leader in Iowa who endorsed Ted Cruz
The Washington Post ^ | January 26, 2016 | Jenna Johnson

As an influential evangelical Iowan, Bob Vander Plaats experienced what it was like to be friends with Donald Trump. The New York billionaire invited Vander Plaats and his family to visit New York several times, refusing to allow them to pay to stay at one of his hotels and lavishing kindness.

Then Vander Plaats - president of the Family Leader, which is opposed to abortion and gay marriage - decided to endorse Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) for president instead of Trump. On Tuesday, Trump skewered Vander Plaats on Twitter, calling him "phony" and "a bad guy." The attacks came as Trump announced that Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. had endorsed him...

I’m praying he will be shown for what he is before it’s too late.

As am I.

Who was Bob to be such an endorsement anyways?

NOW, he is a detriment, before? Who cared?

NOW his response from Trump says WAY more about trump than any endorsement by Bob ever could.

Do you mean like the ‘’thousand/s’’ of Cruz supporters from out of state who are staying in a ‘’defunct dormitory’’ that have been touted right here on FR by Cruz supporters?

That’s right ..they are as you stated....note that all degree of principles and values go out the window in order to support and maintain this fraud-mister. It’s a celebrity personality cult turned over into a celebrity political cult just with a different arena of play, but it is still that with all the markings which identify one.

Even children of these people are being fed the kool-aid....check this 9yr. old bursting into tears because mommy is taking her to see Trump.....very sad to prey on kids emotions...but cults do just that....

The Trump base is comprised of many people who stood shoulder to shoulder with in every past election and elected the slithering snake GOP.

Don’t see what good it does for you to call them stupid.

I’m not stupid.

And one thing thing that makes me angry is a sanctimonious, self righteous, smug Cruz supporter.

Cruz is a politician just like all the rest of the politicians. Just because you may think he’s the one to save America doesn’t mean he is.

Sure.

Why do think I agree with and support everything he does or says?

Any mistake or misstep that you see with Cruz at all?

I’m guessing not.

When he did it to the media, i laughed, but now it is old and when he does it to people who are truly on our side, it is disgraceful!

If he wins, i guess it is time for our first “celebrity president”. It will not turn out good for America.

So in the past, when Bob and his family were allowed to stay for free on Trump property,,what was Trump buying? And why was Bob willing to bought THEN?

Trump thought he was buying an endorsement.

Trump has since learned that Vander Plaat's endorsement was not for sale (nor obtainable through eminent domain). And Trump doesn't like that one bit.

Plaats is an American politician, hardly a preacher. You trying to say Plaats is like Falwel? What a joke, what a stretch.

In 2002, Vander Plaats unsuccessfully ran for the Iowa GOP gubernatorial nomination, losing to Doug Gross. Then Vander Plaats was a candidate for the 2006 Iowa Republican gubernatorial nomination, and had to drop out because he can’t get support or run a campaign properly. He can’t rause money, either.

In the Republican primary on June 8, 2010, Vander Plaats lost to Branstad, he lost by 10 points. This politician can’t win in Iowa.

You’re trying to say this loser politician is a preacher or something. He is as much a preacher as I am. He is a politician first. Period.

And not a very good one. He deserves to be insulted for playing the freebie game politicians do, he isn’t being insulted for being Christian. Some of you Cruz supporters are real laughs, you think a lame claim like this is going tu win Iowa for Cruz? That Trump insults “Christians”.

Get lost. In fact this politician who can’t win maybe says Ted can’t either.

Liberty University president Jerry Falwell Jr., actually IS a preacher, not a politician like Plaats. I think sume of you Cruz supporters are insultung great Christians like Falwell, Jr.

Cruz was “classy” with Palin/Trump announcement because she is the only reason he was elected Senator. He had to keep his weasel trap shut.
*******************************************************************************

So, NOOB, if you see “class” in a political opponent, cast aspersions on his motives for being “classy”. Is that in the Trump supporters’ handbook? If you open your eyes, you’ll see that Ted Cruz is characterized by “class” and Trump by lack of same.

It actually reminds me more of a teenage girl (I had four of them): “You can’t be my friend if you’re friends with her!”

Someone should start a thread with the Donald’s tweets if he becomes president.

If the democrats don’t make the deal he wishes.

I can’t even imagine what they (tweets) would be.

“Keep it up, Trump. It’s a long electoral season... this sh*t will catch up to you.”

Why would he care? I’m convinced that his goal is to destroy the GOP, and endorse ( again ) Hillary on the way out of the race!
