Trump will 'definitely not' participate in Fox debate, campaign says

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa -- Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says he will not attend a debate scheduled for Thursday night in Des Moines, an unexpected twist just days before voters here launch the election process.

"I probably won't be doing the debate. I'm going to have something else in Iowa," he said during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

After the press conference, Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski confirmed to The Washington Post that Trump would "definitely not" participate in Thursday's Fox News debate.

"He's definitely not participating in the Fox News debate," Lewandowski said. "His word is his bond."

He said Trump would remain in Iowa as planned and would instead host an event in the state to raise money for wounded warriors and other veterans groups.

Trump has made such threats before, but he said that the Fox News Channel, which is hosting the debate Thursday night, had gone too far by issuing press statements on Tuesday that he said mocked his concern about Megyn Kelly, one of the debate co-moderators.

"They're dealing with someone who's a little bit different. They can't toy with me like they toy with everybody else," he added.

When Trump saw the press release from Fox, "I said, 'Bye bye,'" he said.

Trump said his event on Thursday will benefit military veterans and service members wounded in war.

This move is brilliant on several levels.
- This would have been what, the 42 Republican debate? They were getting repetitious.
- Trump just stole the news cycle, *again*!
- Trump bitch slapped the media. Something most Republican voters have been itching for someone in the GOP to do for the longest time.
- Trump instead goes to Iowa and raises funds for vets. That’s two scoops of positive press right there.
- Now the remaining candidates have to ask themselves; do I play along with Fox News and look like a submissive wimp, plus no one will be watching, or do I pull the plug on the debate too.

As Chris Matthews said, "If Trump skips the debate, who will tune in to watch two Cuban guys?"

Blind squirrel--finds acorn.

Funny how ‘conservatives’ are siding with a biased media.

I guess you approve of the Candy Crowley method.

Thank goodness Trump has more courage.

How any body even within shouting distance of their right mind can consider voting for this “man” for anything, let alone the highest office in the world, is truly beyond me. He’s not fit to serve as a jailhouse trustee.

So you have Trump’s draft record or were all college students draft dodgers in your opinion? And be careful your reply if it is a insult mine is a strong, longtime military family

What happened to Fox's "Fair and Balanced"

The winners are the Wounded Warriors and that is GREAT!

Cruz won a Supreme Court Case for vets. He also wrote legislation which was unanimously passed to give the Ft. Hood victims Purple Hearts and the benefits that go with them.

The ratings and ad money for Fox will be in the toilet now. Good! The GOP establishment Cruzers won’t have Trump to worry about.

I think Trump will show up. Roger Ailes can’t pull Megyn Kelly from the debate and Donald knows it. Fox News would lose all credibility if Ailes did that. If he doesn’t show up, he’ll give the others on stage a talking point served up on a silver platter: “He can’t even face the moderators here tonight. Do we really want someone like that in the White House?” Also, depending on which poll you look at, Cruz can still take Iowa. Does Donald Trump really want to give Cruz an open forum on Thursday where he (Trump) can’t immediately fire back? I think Trump will be there.

Isn’t it interesting how so many Conservatives complained about media bias,,but when it’s Megyn they can’t help themselves but gush and when it’s against Trump they all of a sudden pretend it doesn’t exist.

If Trump can’t handle Fox how is he going to deal with the presidential debates run by CNN or any of the other major networks?

Lol. This is Trump showed the world that he MEANS what he says, and is not afraid that follow through with threats.

What does he have the games to gain in thIs debate? Nothing.

Now, Trump wins....Fox loses.

Genius.

That’s great! Great for the Ft. Hood people. There are more vets than those brave souls that lived through that Ft. Hood massacre. Don’t they matter?

“How is your post different than one that would come from the GOPeer establishment?”

Trump IS the establishment. He is an oligarch used to buying off politicians.

Now, he can’t a little heat from Fox News?

Post debate polls will show that Trump won the debate even though he was not there. :-)

Actually, I think he just won this debate. He used the Corbomite Maneuver.

This is a preview of how a President Trump will conduct his business.   My way or the highway.   Not necessarily good.

Really?   I view this as a big positive!   Trump is proving he has spine.   He's willing to walk away from a deal.   Makes sense from the guy who wrote The Art of the Deal!
