Donald Trump Gave $1 million To The Event He's Hosting

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump began his Thursday-night charity event by touting all of the people --including himself -- who wrote big checks for it.

Trump announced that he would suddenly host a fundraiser for veterans as an alternative to going to the Fox News primary debate.

Trump boycotted the event after repeatedly complaining about Fox host Megyn Kelly, one of the moderators at the debate, as well as the network overall.

"First, we have to talk about people that made a lot of money," Trump began. "They wouldn't have made a lot of money, they wouldn't even be here, if it weren't for the vets and our great military."

"Carl Icahn gave $500,000. One quick phone call," Trump said, referring to his fellow billionaire whose support he frequently touts on the campaign trail.

You can go to www.c-span.org and view the whole thing on video, uninterrupted. An hour and 38 minutes worth.

A great night where something actually happened instead of just talk. This is one of the main reasons I’m for Trump.

Yeah but that’s whos your pick for President. Not who won tonights debate.

From this thread though it was clearly Trump.

I wonder if they still used the Muslim and other two guests in the debate?

That’s a first. He hasn’t given a dime to his own foundation since he instituted it.

Where is the Drudge poll for who won the debate? I wanted to vote Trump!!!

What in the heck do you mean, "where is it"? It's right in the middle of the page. I just voted. Trump leads the poll at 51.34%!

Ok sorry, I misread it. I still take it as a vote for who won tonight no matter how it’s worded.

I took it that way and I bet that many others did too.

So Trump finally gave money to his own foundation? Been at least 7 years since the last $35,000 contribution.

I watched the debate. Dozed off here and there, but generally "with it." No questions from anybody but Wallace, Kelley and Baeir.

Actually, that’s not true ... he donated $35,000 in 2008. Apparently he makes a big deal about writing the checks, but prior to today, he hasn’t been much on contributing his own money.

Well now, looking at the transcript, I see a "Ferguson" question from one Mark Watson (to Rand Paul), and an "immigrant" question from Dulce Candy (to Carson), and one from Nabela Noor on hate crimes against Muslims (to Jeb).

Guess I was sleeping more than I thought! I missed the global warming set of questions too.

I stand corrected. ;-)

He's a skinflint.

Who are these so called leaders of Vet Groups who are refusing his money? Wounded Warriors etc? The guy last night is a Hillary guy.

You mean these fronts, like Wounde Warriors, that we watch every night in these gripping ads that tear us up, are another phony charity that keeps the money and little goes to the Vets?!!!!!

All morning, CNN is saying that the money Trump raised is NOT going to the VETS but to Trump’s Foundation. Can you believe these people?

Here’s how it works. You take in money. You document what you took in. Then you look to distribute it. This takes time...alot of time.

I hate the media...

Report from CNN said Trump told Fox yesterday he would call off the vet event and appear at the debate if Fox would donate 5 million to the vets. Of course they refused and that was the end of that. He’s been trying to get all the networks to donate money from the debates to vets. Not a time has it happened. None of the greedy bastards think it’s worthy cause, especially because Trump has brought it up and he would get credit for it.

All for a great cause. One wonders if he donated to Liberty University just before the Falwell endorsement. “He’s one of the best evangelicals out there”.
