Cruz: Trump 'Owes At Least $480 Million Right Now' [VIDEO]
The Daily Caller ^ | January 31, 2016 | Derek Draplin

Posted on 01/31/2016 7:27:11 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Sen. Ted Cruz on Sunday accused front-runner Donald Trump of owing $480 million, noting "it could be billions."

Appearing on "Fox News Sunday" the Texas senator told host Chris Wallace that his own loans to run for senate were disclosed and also accused Trump of owing millions.

"If you look at his financial disclosure, he owes at least $480 million dollars right now, and it could be billions," Cruz told Wallace.

"He knows this loan story is completely nonsense," Cruz said. "It's also the height of hutzpah - for someone who owes hundreds of millions of dollars if not billions of dollars, to attack Heidi and me because we put our life savings into running for senate. And the statement that the loans weren't disclosed, he knows is flat out false. The loans were disclosed."

Wallace then pressed Cruz to explain what Trump owes.

"If you look at his financial disclosure, he owes at least $480 million dollars right now and it could be billions," Cruz told Wallace. "And by the way with loans when Heidi and I take loans, we pay them back."

"Donald's declared bankruptcy four times, and so for him to sit there owing hundreds of millions or billions or who knows, and to criticize Heidi and me for putting our entire net worth into the campaign is astonishing," Cruz said. "It is not honest, especially because the loans were disclosed, they were publicly disclosed at the time."

From now on, we must only allow billionaires to run for President, because they don’t need to take loans for their campaigns and therefore are certain to represent the interests of the common voter.

Actually, assuming that the billionaire is self-made, it does make a whole lot more sense than the system we have now, where the only way to win a major office is to sell your ass like a cheap hooker to one party or another and then be owned by their donors for the rest of your career. Plus, have you ever wondered how people with moderate net worth when they get elected are millionaires when they leave office? Hmmm.

>>Trump himself has never filed for bankruptcy. His corporations have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy four times.

Its pretty clear that Trump moved a lot of funds from companies he had purchased to ones he had previously owned and sacrificed, by BK court, the ones he didn’t have a use for. Even if this didn’t happen to the extent it was alleged, Trump was the one in control of these companies.

I’ve owned numerous companies — at least 6. None of them have ever filed bankruptcy. Saying it is corporate and not personal just means there’s an entity involved and makes the process much more complicated. It doesn’t mean there isn’t similar irresponsibility as there USUALLY is with personal bankruptcy.

“Cruz’s vote shaming of Iowa residents flopped, so now he’s trying his hand at loan shaming.”

Not realizing that at the end of the day, except for hall monitors, everyone hates the hall monitor.

You need to keep up or maybe you have an obtuse definition of who works for Wall Street

Heidi is a managing director at GSCO....Goldman Sachs

She is in charge of private asset management in Houston

If she were in the military it’d be comparable to major

Partner is the highest level and there are only 400 worldwide in a very large outfit

Goldman is a big 5 Wall Street firm

Heidi isn’t running for President.

Trump likes TARP. He’s in up to neck with Wall Street.

Agreeing.

This displays either Cruz's financial ignorance; or his willingness to manipulate the public's ignorance about Chapter 11 business reorganization, which is NOT personal bankruptcy and did NOT involve any of Trump's hundreds of business entities except the one in Atlantic City in which many other factors were at play, including a collapse in the real estate market, the New Jersey gaming commission, the feckless NJ and AC governments, and attempts by underworld figures to infiltrate, since they are all over New Jersey.

This article by Forbes magazine (from 2011 - therefore no political knife to grind re this campaign; Forbes has followed Donald skepltically for decades) ) quotes banking experts in saying that Trump did not use Chapter 11 wrongfully:

Fourth Time's A Charm: How Donald Trump Made Bankruptcy Work For Him

Every large corporation uses leverage. I would not trust Cruz with our budget if he is willing to sling around this level of misnformation and make people afraid of a legal business restructuring tool like Chapter 11. It is not the same as personal bankruptcy; and neither Donald nor any of his children not the Trump Organization (his parent company) has never gone bankrupt.

Disappointing of Cruz to stoop this low.

WOW! Now he’s REALLY done it! That no-good double dealing capitalist! Imagine the gall! Having to owe money on SECURED business loans! Geeze, and to think this guy is a REAL ESTATE DEVELOPER!

You know, it’s damn peculiar when a real estate tycoon who is worth 10 BILLION in assets manages to accrue $480 million in mortgage loans ... Who would have thunk? Eh?

Now, to get serious ...

Here’s what your “brilliant” CANADAdate just demonstrated on NATIONAL TELEVISION, to policy wonks and financial junkies across the country (the demographic that typically watches Sunday morning news programs): “I’m am effing clueless dolt, who knows not the most basic aspects of finance - but, yes, please put me in charge of the nation’s economy!”

Senator Cruz is an arrogant, condescending self-absorbed bible-thumping dork, who thinks he is the smartest man in the room - and, as of late, consistently excels at making a damn fool of himself ...

Ted thanks you for your assistance in demonstrating his failures to an increasingly broader number of voters.

Have a nice day.

He’s a PAID OPERATIVE - already outed on a few other threads. I would not be surprised to learn that he actually works for the Democrats.

...Once again, Ted is shaving the truth on this. He did not disclose the loans on his campaign FEC forms...

Exactly.   I'm beginning to think a "good debater" is somebody who can best tiptoe through lies without getting caught.   An honest lawyer for President anyone?

SubMareener, are you a former Navy submarine fleet?   I'm ex-ship driver type. Cheers.

The New Jersey Gaming Commission is a joke. What I’m saying is the Republicans are pikers compared to the Democrats in terms opposition research. Is Trump even in casinos anymore, I don’t believe so at any rate, they just use his name?

Yes. I got halfway through Nuclear Poser School as an enlisted (EM3) before being picked up for OCS. Then back to Nuclear Power School, and two and a half years on USS TREPANG (SSN 674). During which period our average speed was 4.5 knots, in port time included.

Interesting path.   I went through NROTC and served in the surface fleet for 9 years in San Diego, Hawaii (with Marines), and shore duty in Sasebo, Japan.   They said I should bring a souvenir back from Japan, so I brought a wife back :-)   And happily she's put up with my nonsense for 30+ years.   My daughter is a dual-citizen, but I'm in luck because she does not plan to run for POTUS :- ) Cheers.

he sold his books to his campaign

I wonder if the campaign then gave the books away. Signed of course. Cruz is a typical politician.

Trump said Beck begged and begged for an interview. Trump never really knew it - he’s busy - when Trump finally heard from his people Beck wanted an interview it was too late. Beck had flipped to hating Trump thinking he was deliberately being ignored.

Yes, I read a quote somewhere where Beck supposedly said that Trump need to come by and “Kiss The Ring.” Jeez, what a maroon.

LOL, as if someone you owe personal debt or business debt to couldn’t influence you just as much as campaign debt? What’s the difference? If I owe a million dollars to a bookie and he says he’ll forgive the debt if I give him a casino license, then you can obviously see the potential for corruption with ANY debt.

No I’m not. Point to one thread where there was an “outing.” There are none. You’re a liar, following in the footsteps of your dear leader Donald who trashes his opponents with lies.
