Heck, Cruz and Trump could be endorsing one or the other before the primaries are over, and certainly in the general.

In a video age, appearances make a difference, like it or not. Ted looks a bit like "Woody" from "Toy Story".

I admit that I am a freeper for “Trump for president” but do not have a problem supporting whomever should be the eventual candidate.
I would suggest that some of us should celebrate the Cruz win in Iowa by doing something perhaps a little unusual like make a donation or pledge to the FreeRepublic fundraiser this quarter.
If in some way I have offended someone I only offer my thoughts that some or a few posters on this site would be banned by more moderated sites.

It's unfortunate but nevertheless a reality. Cruz has no crossover appeal to blacks or ‘hispanics’. He would have to win a good percentage of white women voters and that ain't going to happen.
There is nothing funny about this year, absolutely nothing.
I’m not sure our votes even count. But if Rubio wins the nomination I’ll vote for Trump if he runs third party. Or I’ll stay at home.
Of course, either way the establishment wins with Hillary or Rubio.
It’s Iowa. It does not matter. All that matters is Super Tuesday.
I thought about that last night when I heard that for each 3.33% of the vote you get 1 delegate.
A lot of effort and hoopla for the honor and momentum of winning that 1 extra delegate.
He stood up to ethanol and won. Pandering?

For two freaking months, I’ve said, “Cruz *must* win Iowa to remain viable. For Trump... it would be nice.” Iowa hasn’t been important since the 1970’s.
The polls had the two men neck-and-neck right up until the last. So there were zero surprises last night.
Granted, Iowa does grant a psychological boost - however the one with the biggest boost is not Cruz. Sadly, it’s Rubio.
That is a loss for both sides.
Trump has major sincerity issues. You never can tell when he's "joking".

Iowa only serves to trim off the bottom candidates. Since it is a proportional system, it means that the top three candidates will get about 10 delegates +/- 2 delegates.
It is not so much a win as a tie with the top three.
Cruz, Trump and Rubio all know that it is a marathon and not a sprint. Each of those campaigns will now refocus on the next state and then the next state etc. That is the way that things will be until we start getting to the winner take all states.
Remember, these early caucuses are designed to eliminate the bottom candidates. I encourage all candidates who received less than 2 delegates from Iowa to drop their campaign and endorse one of the other candidates. Likewise, to those that have supported a candidate that got less than 2 delegates, please consider one of the other candidates for your support.
The sooner that the GOP field is narrowed, the better off the party will be going into the general election.
There are actually only about 12 true "winner take all" states. The rest are either proportional (some with a threshold to receive any delegates), or they are a hybrid where the winner of each congressional district wins the delegates for that district, and the overall state winner wins a few extra delegates. California follows that model, for example. So if Trump, Cruz and Rubio continue to battle it out past March, it is likely that none of them will be able to get a majority of delegates before the convention.
That is something that we all need to try and remember regardless of who we support.
This was an important psychological win for Cruz. He needed to pull out all the stops. But after going all out with his Christian holiness and Conservative purity routine people expect him to run a clean campaign.
But that is not the way Cruz has chose to run his campaign. Instead he and his supporters continue to act like they are the second coming of Bill Clinton. When confronted they explain that everybody is doing it. Which is mostly true, but Ted isn't made of Teflon like Slick Willie used to be. A lot of people's first impression is that he is slimy not slick. If anyone needs to run a squeaky clean campaign and have supporters who stick to an exemplary code of conduct... it is Ted.
The whole premise of the Cruz campaign is that he is more pure than the rest of the pack. It is not going to fly unless things are cleaned up a bit. The most challenging problem Cruz faces is not his Canadian birth but the perception that he is nasty and insincere.
