First on CNN: Ted Cruz apologizes to Ben Carson

Windham, New Hampshire (CNN)The day after winning the Iowa caucuses, Ted Cruz issued an apology to Republican rival Ben Carson for falsely telling Iowa caucusgoers that the retired neurosurgeon planned to quit the race, calling it a "mistake."

Cruz said in a statement Tuesday that his campaign staff saw a CNN report that Carson was dropping out, although CNN had not characterized Carson's actions that way.

"Last night when our political team saw the CNN post saying that Dr. Carson was not carrying on to New Hampshire and South Carolina, our campaign updated grassroots leaders just as we would with any breaking news story," Cruz said in a statement first shared with CNN. "That's fair game. What the team then should have done was send around the follow-up statement from the Carson campaign clarifying that he was indeed staying in the race when that came out."

Cruz repeated what CNN had reported. Why do you call this lying?

This caught my eye. It is a post from someone on another site. Very, very interesting...

“And just think...both Cruz & Rubio are part of the same political hacks we currently have in D.C. And Cruz had 5,000 ‘volunteers’...who perhaps also voted in the caucus. Oh and remember...Iowa has NEVER been able to get it right on picking the future president. They always get it wrong!”

” Just heard Sean Hannity talking about Rubio and how he was a tea party candidate too”

WAS being the operative word.

I said it several times last night and I will say it again. Something was not right with the caucus voting in IA.

I don’t know how easy or difficult it would be to get ahold of the Carson campaign when both campaigns were in the thick of setting up for the caucus. The report had been out there for over an hour and Carson hadn’t bothered to contact CNN to correct the claims so I suspect they all might have been quite busy.

A better question is why CNN didn’t verify it with the Carson campaign.

And why they haven’t apologized for reporting at the 11th hour such a critical erroneous report.

Carson kicked things off by deciding to head home for a change of underwear and the CNN report gives the Cruz campaign some cover. I'm not sure any other candidates would have even apologized. Most if not all are probably sorry they weren't quick enough to use it or in a position to take advantage if they did.

But on the question you raised, was it "the Christian thing to do?", some say religion has no place in politics. I'd add that politics isn't and never will be a game for saints.

Would a conscientious and professional news company have spread that information without first double and triple checking it? They are the ones who got the information from Carson; were they that stupid that they didn’t understand his words correctly?

Iowa has gotten it right several times (not counting the times when incumbents ran unopposed). They got GW Bush right in 2000, and Obama right in 2008.

They back pedal so fast it’s hilarious!

Now he’s a statesman where hours earlier Carson was a liar.

Forever the lawyer that Cruz, great at smoothing over all the ugly stuff. Makes my skin crawl.

“Pssst! Trump is dropping out. Vote Cruz!”

It’s the Cruz playbook.

Hey, don’t apologize. If you get nominated, anything goess with the Democrats and any Carson supporter who didn’t research it himself or herself is the problem. We need a fighter and a winner in 2016.

A passport was not required for a minor child traveling with a parent back in the 70’s, especially coming from Canada to the US.

I am, thank you. I can understand why you’d never vote for a Canadian whose wife works for Goldman Sachs, blah, blah, blah... Play and repeat over and over and...

But while you’re relaxing with your glass of Kool-Aid, consider this: Are you voting for the Donald Trump who, over three years into Obama’s first term, said “Hillary would make a great president or vice president”, “Obama’s a superstar” and “George Bush was the worst president in history” - when anyone with two brain cells to rub together knew that both of them were complete disasters? (Yes, I know; that’s ancient history.)

And since I know you’ll ask me to prove it: http://www.escapetyranny.com/2011/04/14/trump-called-bush-worst-president-in-history-praised-obama-and-hillary/
