UPDATE: FEC Informs Ted Cruz Campaign They Must Provide Information On 2012 Senate Loans…

By now most people are aware of the controversy surrounding Candidate Ted Cruz and his failure to reveal $1.3 million in campaign "loans" from Goldman Sachs and Citibank during his 2012 campaign for the senate. At the heart of the issue is a failure of Ted and Heidi Cruz to list Wall Street "loans" on the required Federal Election Commission financial reports.

Together with the campaign officials the Cruz's say the non-reporting was an accidental oversight. However, a watch dog group has now filed a complaint with the FEC which is step one to beginning an FEC investigation.

Update! Today the FEC requested information from the Cruz campaign, with a response due by March 8th: The full complaint (pdf) is outlined below. However, the larger question behind the complaint would be the motive for Ted and Heidi Cruz to hide the source of their campaign funds. The activity the complainant is presenting to have the FEC investigate, if proven accurate, is factually illegal.

The "accidental omission" is not necessarily the problem. The irreconcilable consequences from an accurate filing are the larger issue.

They can correct the missing information and file amended reports. However, if the Cruz campaign corrects the record based on the explanations to the media, the amended reports will reflect their violations of federal campaign finance laws...

Kabar, I don’t care if KENYA adopts Ted as a citizen. It does not invalidate his AMERICAN citizenship from birth.

I left the forum for three months during the Bush run the first time.

The Bushbots took over the place much the same as the Cruzbots have now.

So what do we do about it? We can go cower in a corner or stuff something like my graphic in their face until they get it.

That’s going to turn some folks off, but I guarantee you no more than the lies from them have turned us off.

I understand you feeling that way. I’m sorry you do. If my graphic was the last straw, then that’s on me.

I simply refuse to be silenced this go round, and I’m going to push back.

Jim,

Today, while reading a thread on petroleum, I noticed that recently, thackney has been notably absent on those related threads. So I did some sleuthing and found this thread and now I see why.

I propose that you try to get him back, maybe via a trade of some sort. Maybe send DO out to pasture as an enticement, as the value of his/her contributions to FR is miniscule and can’t hold a candle to thackney’s.

It is a crying shame to lose such a resource.

I miss his expert comments as well, but it was his choice to leave, and not to be blamed on anyone else.

VM170, after taking months of abuse here at the hand of the Cruz folks without responding in kind, I had finally had enough.

References to my being raped from behind by my political candidate finally took a toll, along with an assortment of other vile comments.

On the morning after the Cruz Iowa win, the Cruz folks were insufferable here. And so I came up with that graphic to sober some folks up.

Others, not being the victim of the absolutely vile disgusting Cruz insults, had a pretty thin skin when it came to my graphic.

As I said then and I’ll say now, the Cruz folks can dish out the most vile things imaginable, but if we dare post a graphic that simply addresses the attitudes without being vulgar, we’re supposed to be the ones at fault.

If the Cruz folks don’t like being treated that way, they can be kinder to others on the forum.

Since that time Cruz has decided to join the GOPe to defeat Trump, so that a floor fight will ensue at the convention.

The Trump folks had him pegged months ago. I’m sorry the Cruz folks couldn’t see it.

I’m not happy to see Thackney gone, but what did the Cruz folks expect us to do? We’re not their door mats here.

Enough was enough, and I responded.

We’ve had to have a very thick skin here. It’s not too much too expect the other side to also, if that’s how they choose to play.

And frankly, that is how they had chosen to play.

NONE of the Cruz folks urged restraint even after those vulgar posts were pointed out. I couldn’t even get a Cruz person to admit male on male rape was going a bit too far.

In reality, the Cruz folks drove Thackney off. When I responded in a relatively decent manner considering, he left.

I will never sit still while the other side talks of me being raped by the candidate I support, and I don’t think you would either. And then to just roam the forum acting like jerks after the Iowa win, after their guy had won, sorry, one step too far. I tried to be gracious congratulating the Cruz folks for the win. That didn’t help either.

We asked folks to tone it down. We got a great big F U for trying to reason with them. What goes around comes around.

It’s a shame they tangled, and a great loss to FR that thackney left us, but they’re both ghood friends and great long-term loyal posters. DoughtyOne has been a friend and great supporter of FR since before FR even existed. We posted together for two or three years on the old Prodigy News BBS in the late 90’s. No way do I give him a timeout, nor can I step into the middle of their personal disagreements on politics.

They are tracking public records. How is this “psycho?” Either they comply with the order and satisfy the FEC or they face legal consequences.

For the record, I have absolutely nothing against Thackney.

I am sorry he reacted the way he did, but I also acknowledge I was pushing the buttons that day. I had finally had enough.

None of what was said just now was designed to rekindle a disagreement. I merely tried to reveal what was on my mind that day.

I respect Jim a great deal. He had an idea and Free Republic is what emerged from that idea.

Yes, Jim and I did meet on the Prodigy Whitewater Bulletin Board in the early mid 1990s. One night I was on the internet in the middle of the night, can’t even remember the exact forum, but it was Whitewater related, and I ran into Jim there. He was talking about his dream.

I’m a slow guy to jump in on new things sometimes, and I think it was six months to a year before I joined Jim and his dream.

I know that Jim is dedicated to this forum, and providing a place where ideas can be express and ideologies advanced. He has my ultimate respect for whatever he does here. It’s his baby, and I fall in behind. That’s my take on it.

Jim and I don’t talk all the time. Why do I say that? I say it because I don’t want folks to think he and I are so tight that he wouldn’t do what he thought was right. Jim respects every person that comes to this forum and does their best to support Conservatism and the forum. So I don’t want folks to think I have special standing. I don’t, and I shouldn’t.

At the same time, if Jim asked me to do something for him or the forum, I would do so gladly.

I am here to support the nation and the forum, even if it doesn’t look like it at times.

This forum is dedicated to the pursuit of this nation being healed. I think that’s a pretty lofty goal. We don’t always agree what course the fixes will come in, but we all share the desire to see the nation righted.

I advocate for what I think is right. I do so as stridently, effectively and forcefully as I can, within limits. I don’t think any man on the battlefield, or any Founding Father would expect me to fight less hard for this nation, or various parts of it.

VMI70, you expressed your views. You obviously miss Thackney. I don’t hold a grudge for you expressing your thoughts, even if you dislike me. Not everyone is going to like me.

Jim, VMI70, take care folks...

Fair enough.

I really hope that he is still lurking, and after reading your posts, that he comes back after the madness of this election season is over.

Best wishes to you and yours for a happy Easter.

I agree with your thoughts.

This period is always a tough time before the elections.

I think we forget how it was in 2012, 2008, 2004, 2000...

When it’s over, we go back to agreeing about what is evil in the world.

The tough remain standing. I now it sucks, but such is life.

Take care.
