PRINCETON, N.J. -- Gallup's analysis of political party affiliation at the state level in 2015 finds that 20 states are solidly Republican or leaning Republican, compared with 14 solidly Democratic or leaning Democratic states. The remaining 16 are competitive. This is the first time in Gallup's eight years of tracking partisanship by state that there have been more Republican than Democratic states. It also marks a dramatic shift from 2008, when Democratic strength nationally was its greatest in recent decades.

I am surprised to see GA “competitive.” I thought they were red.
Going their map with solids/leans, we have:
187 Democrats
152 Republicans
If we throw into the Dem side Minnesota, Maine, Virginia, and Colorado, and we give the GOP Louisiana, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina and Arizona, we end up with:
233 Democrats
210 Republicans
That leaves:
Florida 29
Pennsylvania 20
Ohio 18
Michigan 16
Wisconsin 10
Iowa 6
Nevada 6
up for grabs.
We take Florida, Ohio, and Nevada, and we would still need 7 votes. It may come down to Wisconsin or Michigan this time.

Sadly, the electoral college does not apportion votes equally among states.

Red state majority, Senate majority, House majority-—and the Repubs cave on EVERYTHING, and give Obama anything he wants. He wants $2 trillion-—they give it to him. The Repubs control Congress but didn’t keep even ONE of their 2014 campaign promises, or should I say OATHS. Cruz is one of them; accomplished nothing. Get rid of all professional politicians, primary them, accept no one but civilians, i.e., someone who has NEVER been a politician. Then term limit them. If any one has ever been a politician, they are disqualfied-—not by law, but rather Americans will no longer put up with their BS. We won’t get fooled again.
There is a very good reason. It prevents urban states from overwhelming small, rural states while preventing small rural states from having complete ownership of the executive branch. It’s an elegant system where there is a balance between small and large states. A popular vote would skew towards the urban centers, a 1-vote per State system would skew towards the rural states.
