That's why Cruz would make a perfect assistant to President Trump, whether in the VP or other role.

Most CEOs and leaders surround themselves with people who are smarter then they are. Many of them probably can't even read a P&L statement or open a spreadsheet without some staffers breaking it down for them. The notion that the "smartest guy in the room" needs to be the leader is consistently proven otherwise in the private sector. Usually the CEO is a "bullying" type personality who knows how to motivate other people and get things done.

The job of president is not a CEO job. It doesn’t require “getting things done.” What we need more than anything in a president now is one who will STOP the government from trying to do things. We need a restoration of limited government, constitutional principles. The only way that is going to happen is electing someone with a deeply held conservative ideology. The natural instinct of the average person would be to come into the government and try to “run it better.” No CEO in the world would ever have the mindset of trying to come into a company and shrink it to be as small as possible. It’s the completely wrong resume and mindset for the job. Trump’s idea of coming in to run the government with smarter people is simply a prescription for continuing the bloated, failed federal government we have.
