Trump Hotel in Washington, D.C., to Open Ahead of Schedule

Donald Trump's real-estate company is planning to open its closely watched Washington, D.C., hotel project ahead of schedule, a move that could help underscore the Republican presidential candidate's skills as a real-estate developer.

The Trump Organization, which has been converting the Old Post Office building with its soaring clock tower into a luxury 263-room hotel, is set to open it in early September, according to Ivanka Trump, Mr. Trump's daughter, who has been spearheading the project. The opening had been expected by the hotel industry later in 2016.

But Ms. Trump said in an interview that the opening of the Trump International Hotel actually would be two years ahead of schedule. She said the U.S. General Services Administration--which owns the landmark building and is leasing it to the Trump Organization for 140 years--said the $200 million project had to be completed by August 2018.

Given the complexity in working with numerous government agencies and restoring a building built in the late 1800s, the September opening amounts to a "herculean" feat, she said.

"It requires a lot more time on site than a ground-up project," she said.

Mr. Trump, who has been leading the polls in the New Hampshire Republican primary, has no experience holding government office and has made his business career a cornerstone of his campaign. While the ups and downs of his half-century career have been hotly debated, few have challenged his success as a developer in bringing most of his real-estate projects in on time and on budget.

Ms. Trump said the Trump Organization is announcing the opening of the Washington hotel now because it is going to start accepting reservations, and the timing has nothing to do with Tuesday's New Hampshire primary.

It sounds like Trump didn’t do his due diligence, at least in the 1983 case, because after almost 20 years of appeals he eventually settled.

Regarding the recent cases, as a man opposed to hiring illegal aliens, he could exceed the minimum screening requirements. He could structure a contract to specify punishments for subcontractors who hire illegal, and then enforce the penalties.

Given Trump’s involvement and the leaning of the DC government, do you think for one second that this project wouldn’t be shut down in a New York minute if there were the least minor infraction, including hiring of illegals? The building down the street might get away with that if they chose, but not the Trump organization.

Also, do you believe that every reporter at the WaPo and every media outlet with a presence in DC (which is basically ALL of them) wouldn’t have been onsite to see who works there, and what their immigration status might be? That they wouldn’t pay handsomely to have even one worker for Trump ‘fess up to being an illegal worker on his payroll or on his project? That if there were an illegal or illegals working there they wouldn’t readily sell out for several grand?

Who let the freaking illegals in? How did they cross the 40 foot wall on southern border? The wall runs from Atlantic ocean to Pacific ocean! Is our border so easy to cross? Do we have a country? WTF is going on? I thought the republican majority in congress elected in 2014 was going to fix things. Oh wait a minute...there is no wall!
They fooled us again!

How dumb are we to elect all career politicians? They do not worry about ordinary Americans with few dollars. Their first duty is to service their ultra rich donors.

Despite Cruz^s attacks on his party^s donor class and establishment, the Texas senator Ted Cruz^s insurgent GOP campaign has received $37 million from just four donors the Wilks family of Cisco, Texas (the No. 1 donor on POLITICO^s list), New York hedge fund tycoon Bob Mercer (No. 2), Texas energy investor Toby Neugebauer (No. 4) and Illinois manufacturing moguls Dick and Liz Uihlein.

I guess the cheap labor express is here to stay. Deal with it!

I really and sincerely appreciate the concern you show regards my well being.

However, in order to lighten your load, let me for once and for all assure you, over my 65 years, I have developed and honed my survival instincts to a fine point, and through many trials, and errors, have come to realize just what is needed for my survival, those that I hold dear, and my home, this wonderful country, the best place on this planet.

I do not take my vote lightly, nor do I take the direction this country is going in lightly.

A real shooting civil war is closer than even level headed people think.

We don't get a handle on this, and turn it, all hell is going to break loose.

At this time, I am under no illusion that a hero will materialize, and "save us".

We do need someone as the CIC that can and will help dismantle the current behometh we, ourselves have created and allowed to flourish.

I don't think Cruz, or Trump, is going to fix things, but I do believe either one will at least start the dismantling process.

I gravitated towards Trump because he is not afraid to get in people's faces, and tell it like it is.

No more bullshit, no more soft spoken afraid to utter thoughts because the press might twist the words.

No more PC, I am looking for an in your face guy right now, and he fits the bill well.

Understand, either one is ok by me, but please do not worry your self thinking you are going to help me, save me, or protect me from my self destruction, by convincing me that your judgment regards this election is any better tested, thought out, or based on your years of experience to be the choice of choices.

I do appreciate one thing about you (well, one of many), you are not condescending, nose in the air, baffle 'em with bullshit kind of person, and as mich as I may disagree, I have no animosity to you.

Fare well over the coming storm.

Nick. As young pup nine years the junior of going hot:

What He Said!

I started out with Cruz but I’ve gravitated towards Trump. And while we were growing up, an in your face attitude was sometimes necessary, it wasn’t alway admired. At least not out here in fly over country.

But this isn’t the 50’s, 60’s or 70’s anymore. A lot of the wet behind the ears kids these days do understand and are more accepting, for various reasons (and not always good, I’ll grant you), of the in your face attitude. On the one hand, I don’t much care for it, on the other hand, however, I can see the point. I’m starting to have a feeling for it myself. I am finding it somewhat, liberating.

Trump is a product of one of the largest, most dynamic cities in the world. New Yorkers are know for their - in you face attitude. They don’t apologize for it. After 9/11, they put what ever differences they had with each other aside, pulled together, took care of their dead and wounded, and told the world to F.O.

Trump, a boy from the outer boroughs, made his bones in Manhattan. Not a place to get things done for the faint of heart.

I want fighter, a boxer, and brawler. We’re due for an in you face attitude to deal with the status quo. Cause the status quo hasn’t been serving us so well, for quite some time. And do not even suggest to me that Trump does not LOVE our country. I don’t believe that for a second.

I like both Trump and Cruz. We NEED both! But Cruz isn’t a leader, yet. And I think we need him more in the Senate right now.

We gotta pull together folks. This may be out last shot of saving our country. The barbarians really are at the gate.

Great points. Well said; I’m with you there.. I get the anger about illegals, and I’m equally angry about it too!

That’s why I’d like to know why Trump didn’t take corrective measures once he found out his subcontractor was screwing American workers by feeding at the cheap labor trough (and we KNOW he could have).

Certainly, based on your previous comment, it must bother you as well, no?

So, the comments of some on this forum offended you so much you’re going to refuse to support the candidate?

Need a “safe space?”

You are bitching about a candidate who actually does builds that, under budget and ahead of schedule as opposed to a damned professional politician who has only taxed people who have built that?

“You are bitching about a candidate who actually does builds that, under budget and ahead of schedule as opposed to a damned professional politician who has only taxed people who have built that?”

Let me help you re-focus. The subject of my comment was Trump’s looking the other way while his subcontractors use cheap, illegal, imported labor. A prime point you people make as a reason for backing Trump is his stated stance on illegals. So once again.. try to focus... was Trump wrong to not ensure only legal labor were used? Yes or no?

It bothers me anytime a illegal OR A LEGAL immigrant displaces American citizen in any job.

However I am also a realist. I understand better than most that it is NOT THE JOB of a businessman to investigate illegality background of workers working for his SUB_CONTRACTOR. A businessman has no easy tools to determine legal status. He has no authority to deport anyone.

The failure occurs because we have no wall, we have poor enforcement of laws, and there is no national ID card stipulating legal status like they have in many countries.
