It's a liberal pointing this out, and not too prominently, and it begs the question why conservatives aren't talking about this more, how much young people today don't know about recent history, and how much older people have forgotten it.

And of course, we talk so little about China, even though it is still anything but a free society even as it grows more powerful.

And the “sexist double standard” mentioned in the title is that Bernie can look like he just woke up because he is a man, while a woman politician can’t do that.

To a generation that’s broke, in debt, underemployed and stuck in its parents’ basements, promises of a political revolution, more equitable distribution of (other people’s) wealth, a more robust social safety net and free college can sound pretty appealing. BINGO!

“”Socialism” has never been a dirty word for the current cohort of youth, who either didn’t live through the Cold War or don’t remember it.”

I can’t even describe the revulsion I feel when I think of Communism and Socialism. Systems of oppression have been my enemy since I was old enough to comprehend them. My younger sister feels the same way. Unfortunately, we’re the exceptions to the rule.

This is, of course, a form of authenticity that is off-limits to any female politician, not just one with Clinton's baggage.

Female politicians - at least if they want to be taken seriously on a national stage - cannot be unkempt and unfiltered, hair mussed and voice raised. ... They can't be too quiet or too loud, too emotional or too cold, too meek or too aggressive, and so on.

Oh good grief Washington Post, give it a rest. Cankles is a blight on America. Stop making excuses for her.

Never mind. It's too late anyway.

This was pretty darned good.

Millenials scare me, as much as I like many of them. They really don't grasp how awful socialism is. And as Maha Rushi pointed out on the radio last week to an ignorant young skull of mush, Scandanavia is beginning to wake up to the unsustainability of its system.

Don’t have to go very far to find the “dirty word” in Venezuela, Argentina, Cuba, etc. if the MSM whores would report it .... wouldn’t be so appealing then!

I agree that many young people probably see socialism as a feature not a bug. The government-run schools have been lying about socialism for 50 years. But I will also give young people some benefit of the doubt and assume that much of their attraction to Sanders is that they know enough about Hillary Clinton to know that she is lying scum, bought and paid for, and her husband is a rapist.

Why are so many young’uns feeling the Bern?
no school loans to pay back
free housing
free food free
money from the rich
no need to work
Funny how the times change in the 60’s hippy days to have a young uns follow and old man like sanders was unheard of no matter what he was giving away

Socialism of a type worked for a while in Scandinavia partly because there was a good amount of capitalism mixed in, and because the populations are so homogeneous.

Socialism fails in countries where the population is diverse (like those in Latin America) where it quickly degenerates into a zero sum battle for government stolen goodies.

If full-throated socialism ever came to the US it would be more like Venezuela than Norway or Sweden.

On one of the debates when it was suggested what if it’s not Clinton but Sanders one of the Republican’s on the platform, I don’t remember who, said something to the effect of Sanders can’t win. Could never get elected.

Underestimating. I think he most certainly can. I think they are foolish to ignore this candidate.

I'd say the more interesting questions are how and why conservatives abandoned the educational system and mass media to liberals and leftist radicals. The millennial generation's affection for socialism is a direct result of this. Home-schooling and ignoring popular culture might be great for one's own kids, but what sort of America have they grown up to live in when so many of their contemporaries have been indoctrinated in left-wing dogma since childhood?

“Why are so many young’uns feeling the Bern? “

Could it be they are only reflecting what they learn in the public school system??

Polls that I have heard about indicate that a significant percentage of millenials support the idea of socialism.

I heard a news blurb today that said that something like 90% of people think that America should tax the rich more.

I don’t see how this can be combatted without some life altering event (like a Greater Depression).
