...

Saying that he does't trust businessman Donald Trump ideologically, Viguerie added: "Cruz is the best candidate I've seen since Ronald Reagan and in many ways he's more ideologically consistent than Reagan." His feeling is that with the establishment currently divided across several candidates, Cruz can to rally not just conservatives, but the entire GOP. Viguerie said the GOP hasn't been fully united since 1988 and "only Cruz has potential to unite the party." ...

When did Cruz unite anyone?

Cruz can’t get votes outside his narrow support base.

“Ted’s ability to unite the party is why he was #3 in the last primary.”

Ted was expected to come in 5th in Liberal New Hampshire, but came in 3rd. Just saying.

Are we talking about the guy with the hand gun in his pocket? Trump is OK with the NRA and the 2nd amendment.

He also supports wide open cc permitting.

Yep. Trump has united more Freepers than Cruz. Trump is supported on FR 2 to 1 over Cruz. If Cruz cannot unite people in FR, how is he going to unite people out of it?

Trump will build a large coalition of populists, disaffected blue collar Democrats, fans of American Exceptionalism, immigration foes and trade deal opponents.

It will be large, but not necessarily conservative.

“He’s certainly doing his best to wage a scorched earth campaign.”

I was actually ok with him until he started that. His scorched earth campaign has turned me away from him.

“Losing is the new winning.”

And winning is considered cheating, if Trump doesn’t win of course.

From Ted Cruz for President Website:

*Border security is national security. We need to secure the border once and for all. We need to stop Obama’s amnesty and enforce the rule of law. And we need to reform legal immigration to protect American workers.

*It’s not that we don’t know how to solve illegal immigration. What is missing is the political will to get it done. As President, Ted Cruz will do what he says. He will stop illegal immigration. He will build a wall that works, triple border security, and put in place the surveillance and biometric tracking to secure the border.

*Ted Cruz will end Obama’s amnesty on day one, will end catch-and-release, increase deportations, stop sanctuary policies, and strengthen E-verify.

“You do not believe Your Lyin Eyes ?”

My eyes show me it’s a coliseum with a few thousand people in it. Not a united country.

In NH Trump won every demographic. Cruz’s appeal is as narrow as a thread of hair. Sad to say, the extreme establishment GOPe doesn’t want Trump’s coalition and the Cruz supporters don’t want them either.

Of course he did. It’s New Hampshire.

You're right - there is no GOP candidate who won't alienate a significant number of Republicans. I suspect Cruz would have the best chance of uniting conservatives, but that's not enough to win a general election.

Honestly, things have gotten so bad that watching Bernie Sanders win would at least carry the consolation prize of laughing at the post-mortem finger pointing by Republicans/conservatives bla.ing each other for nominating the "wrong" candidate.

And let’s not forget about this, according to Jeff Sessions, the Gang of Eight bill would almost certainly have become law if it was not for Ted Cruz leading the charge to defeat it.
