Sanders: 'I Believe in Efficient Government'
National Review ^ | February 11, 2016 | Tom S. Elliott

Posted on 02/12/2016 12:29:56 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Bernie Sanders said in tonight's Democratic debate that as a senator, he's well aware there is "an enormous amount of waste and inefficiency and bureaucracy throughout government." Asked if there are any areas of government he would like to reduce, Sanders said, "I believe in government, but I believe in efficient government, not wasteful government."

Here's the exchange:

WOODRUFF: Welcome back to the Democratic presidential debate. Before we return to our questions, we have a follow-up question from our Facebook group. And it is to Senator Sanders. Senator, it comes from Bill Corefield, he's a 55-year-old musician from Troy, Ohio. He asks, "Are there any areas of government you'd like to reduce?'

SANDERS: I'm in the United States Senate. And anyone who doesn't think there is an enormous amount of waste and inefficiency and bureaucracy throughout government would be very, very mistaken. I believe in government, but I believe in efficient government, not wasteful government.

That's Big Government liberal talk.

And it sounds familiar.

No wonder Trump and Sanders appeal to a similar demographic.

Trump said he'll make government more efficient, that he won't cut services (he'll cut waste).

He'll be a better manager.

EPA/Education: "No, I'm not cutting services, but I'm cutting spending. But I may cut Department of Education (Common Core)"...

(Common Core, by the way, isn't a federal mandate: and he will leave in place EPA services - as in dictates?)

See how Trump massages his position?

Jan 19, 2016: Trump calls for higher ethanol mandate

Donald Trump said Tuesday that federal regulators should increase the amount of ethanol blended into the nation's gasoline supply.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, Trump, a real estate mogul and the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, said the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ought to follow the ethanol volumes Congress set in 2007.

"The EPA should ensure that biofuel... blend levels match the statutory level set by Congress under the [renewable fuel standard]," Trump said........"

October 2015 - Trump isn't going to GUT the EPA, he's going to make it more efficient ..."I'm not cutting services, but I'm cutting spending,", Trump told Wallace...Trump Vows To Cut 'Disgraceful' EPA .

'Trump Is for "The Great Man" Politics, with Himself as Great Man'

...Trump tweet:

Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump

Remember, it was the Republican Party, with the help of Conservatives, that made so many promises to their base, BUT DIDN'T KEEP THEM! Hi DT

So why is Trump blaming "the help of Conservatives" for the lies of the Republican establishment? Because Trump isn't conservative, and now he's admitting it. Trump has spent most of his career giving money to Democrats; he has spent most of his career rejecting conservative policies; even now, his version of conservatism boils down to "give me power and I'll make great deals," which is a leftist vision of government rather than a conservative one. Like many members of the Republican establishment, Trump thinks the biggest problem with the Republican Party is ideology; he only dislikes the establishment because he doesn't run it. He wants to replace the old Party establishment with himself. He wants to top the power pyramid. And so he blames conservatives."...

And so he blames conservatives. This is also a strategic play to get ahead of the Cruz-led argument that Trump doesn't philosophically qualify to win conservative votes. Trump is stating pre-emptively that he isn't failing conservatism - conservatism has already failed, and he's just here to help the country. Many of his followers believe this - I routinely receive emails and tweets proclaiming that Trump fans don't care if Trump is conservative, because he's a "real American," as though Americanism can be boiled down to nationalism while excising Constitutionalism. Trump's going full-bore populist now.

So Republicans have a clear choice. Cruz is an actual conservative, who believes in a philosophy of limited government and personal freedom, combined with social institutions that instill virtue in the American citizenry. Trump is for "The Great Man" politics, with himself as Great Man - beyond ideology, beyond principle."

Trump is calling out the deceptive practices of political candidates... claiming to be ‘conservative’. And once elected they become permanent fixtures in the political class courting their donors for the next election... You know the lord McCain ‘NO waterboarding’ uncivilized barbarians, types?

Socialism is never efficient.

Trump and Sanders appeal to the same demographic because both men offer their followers an enemy and a sense that their followers have been cheated. Trump takes some legitimate concerns (Muslim terrorism, lawless immigrations, and foreign threats) and offers himself as the solution. He is the ideology without regard to how mercurial, shiftless, and likely to betray those who are gullible enough to join him.

Scary to hear honest answers... When was the last time you heard a candidate up for election tout who owns them? Politicians lawyers are the least honest people on God’s green earth... some preachers do give them a race though.

I wonder how many of those 2016 Super Delegates [Democrat Party machine elite], that have already pledged to Hillary, will begin withdrawing their support ("super delegates" can do that).

The only efficient government is self governance. Every other for has an inefficiency in proportion to its size.

I would’ve placed Cruz in the Conservatism section; he’s willing to shut down the government and close non-essential bureaucracies. Some of the other candidates qualify more as present-day Republicans which seem to resemble RINOs now.
