~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: NAS Pensacola, Florida

Naval Air Station Pensacola or NAS Pensacola, "The Cradle of Naval Aviation", is a United States Navy base located next to Warrington, Florida, a community southwest of the Pensacola city limits.

It is best known as the initial primary training base for all Navy, Marine and Coast Guard aviators and Naval Flight Officers, the advanced training base for most Naval Flight Officers, and as the home base for the United States Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the precision-flying team known as the Blue Angels.

The air station also hosts the Naval Education and Training Command (NETC) and the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute (NAMI), which provides training for all naval flight surgeons, aviation physiologists, and aviation experimental psychologists.

With the closure of Naval Air Station Memphis in Millington, Tennessee and the transition of that facility to Naval Support Activity Mid-South, NAS Pensacola also became home to the Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC), providing technical training schools for nearly all enlisted aircraft maintenance and enlisted aircrew specialties in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard.

NAS Pensacola contains Forrest Sherman Field, home of Training Air Wing SIX, providing undergraduate flight training for all prospective Naval Flight Officers for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps, and flight officers/navigators for other NATO/Allied/Coalition partners. TRAWING SIX consists of the Training Squadron 4 (VT-4) Warbucks, Training Squadron 10 (VT-10) Wildcats and Training Squadron 86 (VT-86) Sabrehawks, flying the T-45C Goshawk, and T-6A Texan II.

A select number of prospective U.S. Air Force Navigator/Combat Systems Officers, destined for certain fighter and bomber aircraft, were previously trained via TRAWING SIX, with command of VT-10 rotating periodically to a USAF officer.

Today, all USAF Undergraduate CSO Training (UCSOT) for all USAF aircraft is consolidated at NAS Pensacola as a strictly USAF organization and operation under the 479th Flying Training Group (479 FTG), an Air Education and Training Command (AETC) unit.

The 479 FTG is a tenant activity at NAS Pensacola and a geographically separated unit (GSU) of the 12th Flying Training Wing (12 FTW) at Randolph AFB, Texas. The 479 FTG operates USAF T-6A Texan II and T-1A Jayhawk aircraft.

Aaaaaah, but the Wally Worlds here are practically empty at night. That’s why I prefer to shop then if I need stuff there.
From what I understand, our weirdos hit around 6 - 7 a.m. I’m just sinking into a good, deep sleep then so I miss all the “fun”. WHEW!!

Aaaaaaah, but you did!
Drat, I was in such a hurry to get out of the store before they went to “self check-out” at midnight, I didn’t think to grab some ice cream. That would have helped a little.

Can’t get enough around here to settle the sand storms of spring...but maybe this that we got tonight will help. I hope!

I have a friend who does that too. I wouldn’t here,though...we have too many muggers and people up to no good late at night.

Besides...I don’t even like Walmart. LOL!

Well, since I’m only a night owl and not a vampire, guess I’ll wing it to the sheets and do some snoozing!

See ya tomorrow night. My thread night! :)

I’ve always preferred to shop late at night since the stores aren’t crowded then. Easy in, easy out, no waiting at the check-out.

I do most of our shopping at Food Lion or Krogers but cat litter and big bags of cat food are cheaper at Wal Mart. As much as we go through, gotta save $$$ where I can!

But since the next two days are going to be wash-outs and I don’t like dragging dripping bags into the house, I got everything tonight. It’s the only store open after 10:00 around here. A drawback to living in Podunk Nowhere. LOL!

Sweet dreams. See ya here tomorrow night.

No moon visible here either. :-(

But it sure has Gabrielle wound up. She’s wearing me out playing fetch with a milk bottle cap. I keep thinking she’ll run out of steam but she’s like the Energizer Bunny tonight!

It’s only one of MANY cool models they have on display.
I’d love to go back and go through the museum again. We didn’t get to see everything when we were there last summer.

We saw a little more of the base than we were supposed to. Oops! Hubby missed a turn on the way out and we found ourselves at a gate with an “Only authorized personnel beyond this point” sign.
We just KNEW we were going to be busted! LOL! But we managed to get back on the right street and off the base without problems.

Good morning, E...((HUGS))...hope you are having nice weather. Luv had wind and rain. We had snow, melting, rain, more melting, ice, high winds for an hour and now it’s 38 degrees.

Hope you and Bo are able to get out and hunt.
