Trump: My immigration plans aren't set in stone; Parts are "negotiable"
Politico ^ | 03/01/2016 | Hanna Trudo

Donald Trump says parts of his immigration proposals are “negotiable,” but only minor details about his border wall.

In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday night, Trump responded to a question about a recent claim, first introduced by BuzzFeed earlier in the day, that he told The New York Times editorial board in an off-the-record tape-recorded meeting that he may not follow through with his proposed immigration measures if he is elected president.

“The New York Times is claiming today that they had an off-the-record conversation with you in January,” Hannity started.

“We had a board meeting, it was off-the-record, suddenly they leak it, it’s all over the place,” Trump said.

“They said it’s negotiable on the wall,” Hannity said in reference to Trump’s stance on Mexican immigration and his oft-stated promise to build a border wall.

“By the way it is negotiable. Things are negotiable,” Trump said. “I’ll make the wall 2 feet shorter or something.”

Trump was quick to add that the negotiation does not include nixing the idea altogether.

“Building it? Not negotiable.”

Would it be negotiable about the 11 million?” Hannity pressed. “Maybe let some people stay if they register in a period of time?”

“I would say this,” Trump answered. “We will work out some system that’s fair, but we either have a country or we don’t. We need a border. We need a wall.”

>Now imagine if Cruz had said it.

He wouldn’t say it. His desire to protect illegals and flood us with cheap workers and the crime that come with them is non-negotiable.

I do believe he’ll cut off the welfare so that they will want to leave

He said he wouldn't leave sick people in the street. Don't think for a moment he will cut free food to criminal invaders...He may try it but after the first picture of a dehydrated Mexican kid he'll fold like his cheap Chinese suits.

The sell-out didn’t take long.

Trump is just another politician, it appears.

Oh come on. The details of any action are going to depend on negotiations. He’s already told us that criminals aren’t getting back in and that we’d follow the law. That’s pretty detailed. The current law is also pretty detailed.

“And the GOP/Reps have given obama everything he’s ever asked for and you complain of Trump making deals?”

You proved my point. Making “deals” with Liberals means we lose. Every time.

"Then he said THE WALL ITSELF IS ABSOLUTELY NOT NEGOTIABLE."

As of today.. correct. How about that deportation? Remember all those years months weeks days ago, all that bravado about deporting "all 11 million" illegals? Now that deportation is on the negotiation block, why are you so blindly faithful the wall is "not negotiable?"

Yep, the Trumpanzees, deep down in their hearts know they’re going to end up with touch-back amnesty (you can even see it appearing in their comments), but they’ve gone all in and their pride is too big to swallow to admit they’ve been had. They’re just like the poor suckers who turned over all their money for Trump University. I’d feel sorry for them if they hadn’t been such @ssholes about it.

ka boom...I’ve said all along that Trump doesn’t scare me near as much as his fans do. They actually believe this guy.

“Yeah, I thought John Oliver’s Drumpf rant was dead on. I don’t care if he’s a liberal “

That’s all I needed to hear.

So posts a supporter of a Life long Activist Manhattan Liberal.

Man the hits just keep on a coming...

Of course not. Name calling is childish and I hate it when people on this site do it. Even when they call Hillary, “Hitlery”. It just makes us look like 5 year olds.

That's what bugs me so much.

When people pointed out how Trump was not a conservative, and was wrong on a lot of conservative issues, the response was "well maybe, but if he's going to build a wall and deport all the illegals, that's good enough for me.". In other words, it was his hard, uncompromising stance on immigration that was supposed to excuse everything else.

Some of us tried pointing out that he was never going to be able to get that stuff through Congress anyway. He would be forced to compromise away those things that supposedly made him so much better on immigration, and we'd be stuck with all this other crappy positions. But that objection also was dismissed.

So now when he comes out and admits that he's going to "deal" on those issues, and will end up being "fair" to the illegals already here, his supporters do a 180 and say that's perfectly fine. As if most of them weren't arguing strenuously to the contrary over the last few weeks.

So it looks like we're going to be stuck with a nominee who leans left on a bunch if issues, and the ones on which he supposedly was so great start looking a lot like the same position other candidates have.

Dude is a master salesman - I'll give him that.

“All the Trumpers will pass this off as nothing. Now imagine if Cruz had said it.”

And? You’d be right here defending him, and you know it.

Next to the California recall of 2003, this has been the most dispiriting election of my lifetime. This was the first real chance since the mid-1920s to have a conservatve government, and conservatives gave it up for a despot.

“So basically the same that Trump will do, and just finish the wall that was already PASSED BY CONGRESS?”

The dollars still have to be appropriated. Tell us how Trump pulls that one off.

OK, Trumpbots, defend this. Trump has always been a snake; that’s what he is now. How could have not figured this out?

What else is not “negotiable”?

Well, Trump admitted it. If he admits this, what more and just how flexible will he be on everything else.

Do you Trumpbots really think he will have his good friend Hillary prosecuted?
