Yes, he is a milquestoast moderate. Undoubtedly.
However, Trump needs to balance the ticket a little bit. He is tough and fulfills the role of a populist firebrand, he is effectively the attack dog, so who does he need for VP?
Trump needs someone who will fulfill the following criteria to complement him:
1) A record that can't be attacked. Hillary can't run grandma ads against Kasich. He actually has one of the best governor's records on paper in the country, hence his sky high approval ratings in Ohio. He would come out on top in a debate with Julian Castro (most likely VP pick for Hillary) as he would come across as the everyman and Castro as a slimy greasy foreigner.
2) A softer, gentler approach that will re-assure those who dislike Trump's brash style. Kasich is actually somewhat likable when he isn't talking about how great he is.
3) Someone who will appease the idiots saying they will help Hillary in the general. They can't really do that with Kasich on the ticket. Ben Sasse and Bill Kristol in particular will look like idiots.
4) Someone Trump hasn't totally trashed. His scorched earth tactics have burned his relationships with virtually everyone else, making their possibilities of VP seem overly forced.
5) Someone who can really maximize Trump's appeal to blue collar workers, and deliver his home state
I have no doubt Kasich would deliver Ohio to Trump by a 6 point spread over Hillary, allowing him to focus more on Florida. (Virginia is lost at this point). I know, many Freepers hate Kasich, and there is good reason to, believe me. But just from a practical standpoint, he wouldn't be a bad choice for Trump. He has qualities which complement Trump's well, the only question mark is whether he can become an effective advocate for Trump's actual policies rather than his own. Make no mistake though, if Kasich is offered VP, he will take it in a heartbeat.
Geez I hope not...
And I doubt Trump would select him.
According to HilLIARy we need a vagina in the White House, so I am hoping for Palin.
I do not see Trump picking Kasich, just don’t think its going to happen.
Kasich? MUST you make us barf this early in the morning?
I know who it WON’T be: Nikki Haley, Carly Fiorina, or Susan Martinez
I think Jan Brewer should be on the short list.
Col. West, or Blackburn
I am hoping for Melania!
I would be fine with that choice. State and Federal government experience. Trump has stated he wants someone with inside experience for that slot.
Ben Carson doesn’t have the experience but I believe there will be a role for him, not necessarily as HHS Secretary. He’s stated as much that he really doesn’t want that job.
Neither Cruz, Rubio have that much experience, either. They are both still first term Senators. I don’t want that repeated for high office.
And if Trump wasn’t in the race, the long knives we’ve seen would unanimously be aligned against Ted Cruz.
Jeff Sessions would be great as well but I don’t necessarily think that will happen.
Right - I also forgot about Walker. Methinks he should have a meaningful place in a Trump Administration for sure.
Here is the thing, Super Tuesday showed us that Trump has the south in the bag, and could be competitive in more liberal states, New Hampshire will be very competitive, and he could force Clinton to spend money in NY.
Where Trump might have problems is the rust belt. Kasich would solve that.
I thought Kasich did really well last night.
But having him as VP reminds me of Reagan having Bush as VP to add “balance.”
All it did was set up the end of the Reagan agenda and provide an opening for Bill Clinton. Bush was an awful choice, and I see Kasich being the same way.
How about former Congressman and Lt Col, Allen West?
Herman Cain
He would be a good choice, but he’s a little too obscure.
John said no to the veep slot last night. He’ll go back to his job as governor.
I would prefer him as budget director...but with the implementation of a flat tax the model will be drastically changed.
The best thing about the flat tax that all three top guys have is that it destroys the lobby industry that was built around the tax code. That alone will save taxpayers...billions.
I like it.
I’ve thought Kasich the best pick for some time; at least for the first term.
Now you’re talkin!
This is how you get those all-important moderates.
