Donald Trump to host rally at UIC (Chicago - protests planned)

CHICAGO (WLS) -- In response to Donald Trump's plan to hold a campaign rally at the UIC Pavilion on Friday, students, instructors and others have called for the event to be canceled. But University of Illinois - Chicago's chancellor says he has no grounds to deny Trump the use of the arena, as his campaign is paying for it.

About 180 UIC faculty and staff sent a letter Monday to the chancellor expressing concern about the rally and as of about 6 p.m. Monday, a petition on MoveOn.org had more than 44,000 signatures of people who opposed the event.

The petition's home page says, "UIC is home to working students... immigrant and students of color to have access to higher education and graduate ... The platform Trump would announce at the UIC Pavilion is a direct attack on much of the UIC student body."

Trump, who is vying for the GOP presidential nomination, is rallying supporters ahead of Illinois' March 15 primary.

On campus, 75 student leaders got together to plan their protest.

"Really, he just feeding the fear of a lot of the misconceptions that people seem to have about these minority groups," says Asal Wadhen, a UIC student.

"What we want to do is advocate for the groups that Trump's campaign has dehumanized," says Juan Rojas of "Stop Trump Chicago."

Elsewhere on the campaign trail, Trump's opponents are shrugging off his attacks. Texas Senator Ted Cruz insists momentum is shifting his way, while Florida Senator Marco Rubio rebuffed Trump's call for him to drop out after dropping to third place.

"Of course Donald Trump is calling on people to drop out," Sen. Rubio said. "But Donald suffered some real damage over the last week and people are starting to learn that Donald Trump, the character, and Donald Trump, the person, are not the same thing."

Yeah, that will play well on the news. Maybe a few fatalities to spice things up...

Say what you will about Trump but he isn’t afraid to walk into the Lion’s Den.

UIC used to be mostly foreign students and minorities, and I suspect it still is highly liberal being an urban university.

Trump should say Screw Them and come out to NIU or Illinois State where he’d fill the stadium with great people who are trapped in a blue state ruled by Democrats from Chicago.

Tip, Donald; bring your private crowd control/ personal protection group with you. Don’t rely soley on local cops if you don’t have to. The local cops will be busy babysitting BLM types.

It could get interesting. There has been a lot of BLM activity downtown for a while. Luis Guiterrez is promising to bring out the Latinos. And there are efforts for anti-Trumpites to get tickets to the rally. Cruz and Kasich are supposed to be there too this week. I haven’t heard of any planned protests at their events.

UIC ... Isn’t that where Bill Ayers is employed?

Why waste time in democratic Chicago with its large urban black population, there’s plenty of other places in Illinois that would be less of a hassle if you ask me, now if he were to talk about the daily murders taking place there and what he would do to stop it, that would be one thing, but that hasn’t been a part of his campaign themes, his normal stump speech can just as easily be given somewhere more friendly in the Land of Lincoln. I’m stumped, why Chicago?

Yes, UIC is where Bill Ayers the terrorist worked, but I think he just retired. He’s probably Professor Emeritus now (if UIC let him have Emeritus status). It’s an honorary title for retired Profs that allows them to still have some of the Campus perks, like shared office space to stay in when they come to their old department, an email account, etc. Many still will teach an occasional course.

UIC is terribly liberal for the most part, except for some Profs and Admin, mainly in the Sciences, and most hide the fact that they are conservative. I know, because I retired from working in the UIC Math Dept as an Administrator. The handful of conservative Math Profs would meet in my office to talk conservative politics behind closed doors. They would stream in and out periodically; the vast majority of the Dept. was liberal though. Tidbit: many minority students, esp. Chinese, were in the Math Dept. because they didn’t have to speak English well when studying in the hard science fields.

UIC was also one of the few Universities to hire a Transvestite Economics Professor, a He dressed up as a She. One of the women I worked with (she was a Project Coordinator in the Math Education part of the Math Dept.) lived with her partner who was a She that was really a He. Such fun.

Plus UIC is chock full of all minorities, lots of Hispanics (the Pilsen area right next to UIC that used to be Middle European is now almost totally Hispanic, the Maxwell Street area with its famous old Market, that used to be the old Jewish garment district right next to Campus turned primarily Black until UIC bought up Maxwell Street, and Yuppified it, and there are Black neighborhoods close to campus, both West and South of it. Tidbit: there is an old, famous Paul Butterfield blues album with the Band standing in front of one of the old Maxwell Street buildings. Really cool album cover.

The campus itself still has small chunks of the old Italian neighborhood it replaced much of. Southeast, about 10-15 minutes drive away, is Chinatown, and directly north over the Congress Street Expressway bridge on Halsted Street, is Greektown. Immigrants and illegals, and minorities and liberal whites, along with some conservative ethnics, all mixed up in a big salad bowl (as Ben Carson would say).

Actually, lots of neat old neighborhoods, architecturally speaking, and an eater’s paradise. Ethnic restaurants galore; the Italian ones are superb. Most of the Italian restaurants, you go in the front door into a bar first, and the restaurant is in the back. In the old Italian neighborhoods, they still pitch pennies, play bocce ball, have Italian men’s clubs, and their homes all seem to have beautiful carved wooden front doors, even the more shabby buildings. The food is to die for (can’t stop saying it). It was a fun place to work actually, in many aspects. I roamed and explored every nook and cranny around there. Should have been a tour guide, lol.

However, Trump is going to run into lots of incoming if he has his rally at the UIC Pavilion auditorium. It’s the same place the Black racist Louis Farrakhan gives his rallies to his Muslim brethren. Father Pfleger, the activist Catholic priest is a friend of his. Same with Rev. Wright, Obama’s mentor. An evil cabal.

Speaking of Muzzies, UIC is chock full of them; mostly Pali’s, but many other Arab students also, and they are activist and march around a lot. I used to watch them march by with bullhorns down below my 3rd floor office window in the Math Dept.

I don’t get it. There’s very little parking available around there, so many people will have to commute there on the trains and buses. The commuter trains do however all come into stations from the outlying suburbs. Will be interesting to see if he can fill the auditorium that is very large. Once you arrive on Campus, it’s pretty safe. They have their own Campus police as well as City police. There is a police station right on Campus.

I hope Trump has his flak jacket on; he’s going to need it. He’s going into the jaws of the enemy and their mouths are open wide. The proverbial viper’s pit.

“Tidbit: many minority students, esp. Chinese, were in the Math Dept. because they didn’t have to speak English well when studying in the hard science fields.”

Slight correction to my UIC rap above. Math is actually more of a soft science rather than a hard one. The Math Dept. is located within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, unlike the other Sciences. Math is mainly theoretical, but with lots of hard science applications and uses. (Actually, many say Maths, not Math, just as a linguistic aside.)

I suggest all the unvetted Muslims and the illegal hordes from Latin Amerika setup camp at UIC. In Juan’s dorm. When he’s assaulted or worse, he can reevaluate who is dehumanizing whom.

“Maybe a few fatalities to spice things up...”......

Knowing the “element” in the Chicago area, there may be more truth than fiction to that statement. The animals are getting restless and I put NOTHING past them as they have NO CONTROL over their emotions, give them a reason and they completely lose it. Let’s all hope it is a “peaceful resistance”.

Say what they will, Trump is definitely a “Clyde Beatty”, hope he has a chair and a whip in hand. I’d really like to see that.

All products of brainwashing since childhood. I hope Trump has a plan to change that process, we need better Americans.

It’s actually a good university, at least in biology, chemistry, math, education, and engineering, and from what I’ve heard a fair amount of people who want state university tuition rates, don’t want to live downstate to go to the main campus of U of I, and don’t want to pay for room and board, go there and commute. Plus, it is connected to the biggest medical school in the country. If it has been turned into an intolerant leftist environment, that’s a shame.

Prediction: The protestors go stupid and become Trumps sister Solja. More people will vote against irrational protestors than against an obnoxious candidate.
