"...It was never really a Cruz surge as that implies he rose on his own merit.

Cruz’s over performance was due to two things, one Rubio dropped like a rock and Cruz got those votes and two Dr. Carson dropped out and those mostly went to Cruz..."

Well, wouldn't that indicate that Cruz has been held back by their presence in the race? And that their presence (along with Rubio and Kasich) skew the true nature of a Cruz/Trump competition?

In other words, Cruz's support is diluted by the others' presence; Trump not so much.

If they're gone or leave the race, Cruz shows big movement.

Just a thought.

You could be right, it would be especially helpful to Cruz if Rubio left the race. But what does that tell you about the “true conservative” Cruz? I’m astonished that people don’t see Ted’s establishment ties.

The support levels for Cruz surged because he persuaded their supporters to support him.

Nope, when voters turned from Rubio they went to the other Washington insider. Rubio voters never even pretended to want an outsider.

"....But what does that tell you about the “true conservative” Cruz?"

It tells me nothing. It's not binary.

Matter of fact, it probably has as much to do with people not liking/not trusting Trump.

And you can't assign traits to a candidate from the characteristics of their supporters.

You wouldn't want that done with Trump, would you?

Trump’s performances in those States based on final RCP Polling:

Alabama: Actual - 43.4 Polling - 38.0
Georgia: Actual - 38.8 Polling - 36.2
Tennessee: Actual - 38.9 Polling - 40.0
South Carolina: Actual - 32.5 Polling - 31.8
New Hampshire: Actual - 35.3 Polling - 31.2
Nevada: Actual - 45.9 Polling - 42
Massachusetts: Actual - 49 Polling - 45.3

Over-performed in Alabama and New Hampshire, certainly. Did a little better than expected in Nevada and Massachusetts, so I’ll throw those in, too. Was pretty darn close to South Carolina and Georgia, going to call that ‘as expected’. Tennessee, he came in ‘as expected’ (on the low end) to the only poll taken in the last month before they voted.

Overall, the polling for Trump has been amazingly accurate.

Is that a guess on Idaho? Because I would think Idaho would be Trump country.

Or maybe you need to pay attention to those same polls that you tout that show Trump’s dominance in the Republican primaries. They also show that Trump has the biggest negatives of any Republican candidate.

He isn’t persuading supporters from other candidates.

When 12% of precincts report in and then nothing for over an hour and then the establishment comes out with the final results and who won then are you seriously trying to say that is not fishy?

Odd? I suppose. Proof of fraud. Give me a break.

Well that's new. According to the entire U.S. gov't and national media, Trump is KKK because someone said they support him.

Asking for proof is what liberals do when it comes to fraud.

LOL. Sarcasm?

Cruzers will say we took al we took all even if they only win one state.

Just kidding and that is as ridiculous as the comment Trump, my master wins all.

We all have our favorite candidate. Argue points but do not ridicule other freepers regardless of the side one is on.

Trumpbots in unison, "Trump, my Master wins all!, Trump my Master will all!"

Please explain how that's different from,

Cruzbots in unison, "Cruz, my Master wins all!, Cruz my Master will all!"

On both sides it's partisanship on steroids losing sight of the real goal: America's recovery of freedom from unconstitutional central governance.

I wonder how the rust belt Michigan voters feel about Cruz representing Toyota.

They like it?

certainly very odd and with no explanation, come on we saw what they did in MS a couple of years back.

I don’t trust the establishment one bit and what happened in ME is how you say, “odd”

But how does he win FL and OH in the general.

Good point. The fact Cruz is winning caucuses and closed primaries and losing open primary states is not a good sign for the general election. If Hillary were running unopposed and not in a heated contest with Sanders One could credit it to Democratic Party hijinks. That is not happening. The only candidate showing significant crossover voters is Trump. The Dems are very afraid of that occurring. That is why McConnell, Ryan, and other powerful Republicanleaders were meeting with major Democratic Party supporters on Sea Island yesterday to get their support for Super PACS that are anti-Trump.
