Could Trump win over some black voters?
Fox News ^ | 3/9/16 | Joseph Weber

Contest after contest has shown Hillary Clinton has the overwhelming support of black voters in the 2016 Democratic primary – but up against Donald Trump, the general election might be a different story.

To be sure, nobody expects Trump or any GOP presidential candidate to win the majority of the black vote, which has been with Democrats since the mid-1930s. Clinton has every reason to believe most black voters sticking with her in the primary against Bernie Sanders would do so in a general election as well.

However, analysts suggest that to consider the black vote a monolith for Clinton in November, should she win the nomination, would be a mistake. The Trump jobs message that has attracted so many disaffected white, blue-collar workers could resonate with black voters equally frustrated by chronic unemployment and unfulfilled promises of change – and Trump’s accelerating march toward the GOP nomination has proven his knack for bringing in voters who might not normally pick a Republican.

“If anything, he knows the economy,” Luz Nelson, a beautician and black South Carolina voter, said days before the front-running Clinton won the state Democratic primary with more than 80 percent of the black vote.

“I’m a New Yorker, too,” Nelson continued. “I know where he’s coming from. Nobody controls Donald Trump.”

If he wants to put any significant portion of the black vote in play, Trump would have to do better than past GOP nominees -- if he indeed is his party’s standard-bearer come November.

Nobody talks about it because it is a huge scam...the states get one federal dollar for every three dollars in child support they collect. That along with the interest and penalties they collect and the ultimate power they have to collect or incarcerate without due process is a power and money grab they’ll fight tooth and nail to keep.

Wake up and smell the coffee! Trump won the Hispanic voters in Nevada, which has a lot of Hispanics.

He won the Republican caucus. About 35,000 votes out of a state that sent over one million people to the polls in 2012. Now what percentage of the Republican caucus goers were Hispanic? I don't think anyone has polled it. What percentage of Hispanics are registered Republicans? I don't think anyone can say that either.

Announcing he couldn’t denounce the KKK without “learning more” about them won’t help Donald on this one.

HAHAHA 35,000 in a poll would make it the most accurate poll in the world! This is not an internet poll, it is actual people voting.....best polling sample in the UNIVERSE!!

HAHAHA you take a poll of strictly Republicans and determine that Trump would take 45% of the Hispanic vote in the election. That is a laugh riot.

Any black voters that are attracted to the GOP by Trump are not the icing on the cake but the little letters on top.

Any time or money spent on trying to attract this particular minority group is misspent.

The real target for the GOP is disaffected blue collar folks who tend to vote Democratic unless they get a message they can believe serves their interests a la Reagan. They are a much easier sell because most of them are not chained to the Dems by free stuff.

My friend, you are still missing the point.
Trump received more Hispanic votes than Cruz, Rubio & kasich. Kapish?

Wrong! He was asked Duke and his “GROUP”, never used the word KKK.

"Wrong! He was asked Duke and his “GROUP”, never used the word KKK."

That's demonstrably false - the questioner specifically said "I'm talking about the KKK." And Donald kept insisting that he couldn't possibly disavow any of those groups.

But even so, Trump is now claiming he doesn't know who David Duke is? The same David Duke who drove Trump out of the Reform Party, when Trump said he had to leave because David Duke had joined and he didn't want to be associated with scumbags like that? Now Trump has forgotten who David Duke is?

Trump has no core principles. When disavowing the KKK has to first be subjected to a marketing calculus, it's clear that there are no actual values in play. Which is fine - his voters don't care about that, just as they don't care about his lies. But we can stop pretending that Donald will have some magic crossover appeal, or that he'll somehow be able to draw in minority voters.

Please stop imitating the leftist media. I shoukld not have to waste my time answering your imitating the leftist media. But one last time I will take the pains.

When the question was INITIALLY posed to Trump, it did NOT include the word KKK. The question was asked, would you, Mr Trump, disavow Duke and his group?

Trump answered, I would have to know more about what group you are talking about. Then it was FOLLOWED UP by saying even if the group is KKK? T which Trump answered if it is KKK then of course I disavow it, but you are asking a question with “IF”, which makes it a hypothetical question.....paraphrasing.

Yep. And it was originally a Democrat idea, Bill Bradley’s bill to be exact. Just another way to ensure people never get off the welfare plantation,

Once again, that is demonstrably not true. Shall we check the transcript?

TAPPER: I want to ask you about the Anti-Defamation League, which this week called on you to publicly condemn unequivocally the racism of former KKK grand wizard David Duke, who recently said that voting against you at this point would be treason to your heritage.

Will you unequivocally condemn David Duke and say that you don't want his vote or that of other white supremacists in this election?

TRUMP: Well, just so you understand, I don't know anything about David Duke. OK? I don't know anything about what you're even talking about with white supremacy or white supremacists. So, I don't know.

I don't know, did he endorse me or what's going on, because, you know, I know nothing about David Duke. I know nothing about white supremacists. And so you're asking me a question that I'm supposed to be talking about people that I know nothing about.

TAPPER: But I guess the question from the Anti-Defamation League is, even if you don't know about their endorsement, there are these groups and individuals endorsing you. Would you just say unequivocally you condemn them and you don't want their support?

TRUMP: Well, I have to look at the group. I mean, I don't know what group you're talking about.

You wouldn't want me to condemn a group that I know nothing about. I would have to look. If you would send me a list of the groups, I will do research on them. And, certainly, I would disavow if I thought there was something wrong.

TAPPER: The Ku Klux Klan?

TRUMP: But you may have groups in there that are totally fine, and it would be very unfair. So, give me a list of the groups, and I will let you know.

TAPPER: OK. I mean, I'm just talking about David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan here, but...

TRUMP: I don't know any -- honestly, I don't know David Duke. I don't believe I have ever met him. I'm pretty sure I didn't meet him. And I just don't know anything about him.
The KKK was explicitly part of the initial question. Hell, they were mentioned in the first sentence. Tapper repeatedly made it very clear that he was talking about David Duke and the KKK. And Trump pretended he didn't know anything about it, even though he had previously said that he quit the Reform Party in part because David Duke joined it and he didn't want to be associated with Duke.

Trump lies. That is another indisputable fact at this point. You can say that you don't care, you still think he's our best chance to defeat Hillary, and that would be totally okay. But can no longer pretend that facts aren't facts.

So to return to the subject of this thread: no, Donald will not make any significant inroads to black voters. Not when he's handed Hillary all this oppo research on a gold-plated platter.

Trump will be your next president. Get used to it!

I like how he answered the reporter.

Go Trump 2016!

Really? You like his response, that the KKK might be okay?

I don’t think that’s acceptable. I think Trump would have disqualified himself with those lies, if he hadn’t already with all his other lies.

And you’re deluding yourself if you think that he can beat Hillary. We’ve got enough of a problem fighting the demographic fight without a candidate who’s okay with the damn Klan. Not only will Trump not peel off black voters, he’ll lose the mushy middle with garbage like this.

That’s not the real problem, though. The problem is that he’ll drag down the down-ticket races. Democrats will hang the KKK around the neck of every Republican senator; they’ve already started.

So he’ll hand Hillary not only the White House, but a Democratic senate to go along with it. What do you think that will do to the Supreme Court? What do you think that will do to the country?

Yes, I would have responded the same way as Trump did. I also know nothing about David Duke. Why would I want to denigrate any leader of any group I really do not know well? I have never seen or heard Duke’s speeches in 55 years of watching TV.

Has David Duke committed any felonies? Has he murdered anyone? People I really despise are the cowardly radical Muslims who tie up a hapless captured individual’s hands and feet and then they cut his neck off with a dirty knife. DO you know if Duke has done similar vile acts?

Once our politicians refuse to condemn them, then it’ll be a legitimate comparison. But here we have a political candidate going out of his way to avoid saying anything bad about the KKK, and no straw man can obfuscate that.

If you really don’t know what the KKK is, then you truly are a “low-information voter”. But as for the short-fingered vulgarian, he’s not ignorant. He’s just lying to you. Which is what he does.

I understand the frustration that has driven so many to him. I too hate the elites who have taken us for granted for so long. But Trump’s lip service isn’t any better than their lip service, just newer.

I do wonder why his customers are so eager to ignore or rationalize away his constant stream of lies. If he’s willing to lie to you to get the job, he can’t be trusted with it.
