Trump is ahead because people are also angry about elected Republicans not doing anything to stop the Obama train wreck.

and Trump has correctly pointed out it is very hard to make peace with people who teach their children that Jews are evil.

Just had a flash of brilliance. Trump should have asked, "Does Islam hate Israel?"

Smoot-Hawley was like giving poor old George Washington leeches when he was suffering his final illness. It was an added insult to what was already a disaster.

Smoot-Hawley wasn’t much different than Fordney-McCumber, the tariff act of 1922. If S-H caused the Depression you would think that Fordney-McCumber would have been similarly followed by a disaster rather than the boom of the 1920s.

Friedman and Schwartz blame the Depression on the collapse of the money supply. As did Joseph Schumpeter, a contemporary of the Depression. It was a major monetary event, the destruction of the credit portion of the money supply due to massive bank failures. We can still see how Wall Street reacts to just the suggestion that the Fed will tighten credit. Imagine a 30% real reduction in the money supply.

Smoot-Hawley was a fiscal event, not a monetary one. From what I can see monetary effects are more powerful than the fiscal.

Yeah but I heard a few days ago that knife that was supposedly found at OJ’s house is NOT the knife. I always believed that Robert Kardashian got rid of the knife and the bloody clothes in that garment bag they never found

“I’m about six years away from Social Security.”

Me too. I did not put any expectations in SS. So I made investments, both brokerages and 401k, and I took the time to study and understand the business cycles, the world economy, the differences in types of investments and when the time is ready for one or the other, interest rates, currency manipulation, the strength or weakness of the dollar, on and on.

And now I have a LOT of money.

Even when things tanked of late, I still came out ok and in fact am better aligned than ever. I do not need SS.

But I support those who paid in, paid in, paid in, forced to do so, and they deserve their money.

The ONLY solution is to replace SS at some point with a privatized method of saving for the future and to open incentives to do so - and to have a GDP and economy where growth will grow such investments FOR AMERICA OVER ALL.

In fact, that alone - the greatness of America and the GROWTH and economic power of America - which will save Social Security for those who deserve getting what they paid in to. Trump is correct. We don’t as much need to “raise the age” or cut the benefit - we need to grow America.
