To stop Trump, GOP establishment must rally around Cruz
Chicago Tribune ^ | 3/9/16 | John Kass

For grass-roots conservative Republicans — mocked by the Beltway's imperial punditry and lied to again and again by the GOP establishment — what could be sweeter than this?

They can watch the GOP elite tremble in fear and panic over the prospect of Donald Trump as their presidential candidate.

Or they can wait for those same Republican establishment lords to drop to their knees and begin that slow crawl, over the broken political corpse of Marco Rubio, to kiss the feet of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, the constitutional conservative whom they hate.

Ahhh.

At times like this, I just want to enjoy a fine cigar, think of revenge as a dish best served cold and consider a great line from antiquity such as this one:

Those whom the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad.

The GOP establishment boys are hopping mad now, mad as hatters, frantic for answers, even ridiculous answers. And the most ridiculous is the dream of propping up Rubio and Ohio Gov. John Kasich until Mitt Romney can ride his milquetoast-colored steed and rescue them at their convention.

After Cruz’s latest insult to Trump voters, Cruz will need all the help he can get.

Cruz’s drift toward the establishment probably explains his “Trump supporters are low information retards” tendencies in recent days.

That is PRECISELY the Democrat Way! Concede to ME. Give up your anger, your reticence and do what the hell I want! Nothing otherwise is acceptable!

Even this anyone-but-Trump imperative is idiotic. All I see is “stop-Trump” but no meat on the bones of the argument otherwise.

Is Cruz delusional or complicit? If they steal the nomination for Cruz, the next step will be to find a friendly judge to question his Natural Born Citizen status. To avoid that, he'd have to join his buddy John Roberts in being a slave to their agenda.

The MSM is playing the Trump camps against the Cruz camps and vice versa just like a fiddle. At this rate expect Hillary to be sitting on the throne come January 2017. And you thought the AntiChrist would be man...

Ted Cruz is mad that so many “low information” voters cling to their guns and religion and anger.

Where have I heard that before?

I wouldn’t give my vote to Cruz if it was the last thing I ever did...

Liar, ‘establishment’ phony and fraud....

NEVER give a phony establishment person your vote!!!

I’ll stay home before I would even waste the gas to get to the voting booth!!!

He thinks because I’m a 100% Trump supporter, that I am low information, guess what jackass, I’m a College Graduate with my own business!!!

Cruz just said that I, among others, was “low information” and “un-engaged” because I’m supportive of Trump.

As such, it will be a cold day in Hell before Cruz gets my vote.

To win in november (that should be the goal) they need to stop attacking Trump voters. If Cruz gets the nomination they need us but Cruz is joining in and calling us stupid.

If Trump gets the nomination, their attacks of the republican candidate will be a huge help for Hillary. Which may be what they want - better to not have the presidency than to have a president who listens to the voters instead of donors. And I think they are more comfortable being the minority party in the senate which will also likely happen if they continue.

Thanks for posting that link. It deserves its own thread. Did Cruz just insult southeastern Evangelicals, MA independents and Michigan manufacturing workers as being low information and uninformed? Did he just insult Jeff Sessions, Sara Palin, Chris Christie and NASCAR leadership? Wow.

Thwart the American people at all costs...that is really what they are saying...they know better than we who should be President.

If you want to end the elitist rule, if you truly want to make a difference in this damned government it is clear there is only one path...and that is Donald Trump.

Cruz, regardless of what he says is owned by the establishment...trust us Cruz supporters, I am a former Cruz supporter who saw the light. Trump will tear their corrupt powerbase apart and his policies will create an economic boom for America and a safer America as well.

Sounds like one of those mob bosses Ted was telling us about.

The more and more this goes on the less respect I have for Ted Cruz. I agree with him on most issues but I cannot get past his preachy, over-pausated speech and his conservative elitism. If I cannot get past that as a conservative how can I expect more moderate republicans, independents or even democrats to vote for him? That is why he will never be president.

Trump is not my ideal choice but is there ever an ideal choice? No, but I do think he has the best shot of winning and wow is he pissing off the right people. If he wins with this deck so stacked against him he deserves the presidency.

Same here, college grad with my own business. I guess I am not smart enough for government work like Teddy Bare is

Cruz is GOPe, sorry, I called this months ago and took a ton of heat for it

The cruzers still believe in cruz but once you hire Bush, you are no longer a “outsider” in my opinion
