The Northern Marianas are a collection of 15 islands in the Pacific Ocean, located at about the focal point of the Pacific Rim. It's a United States territory, 179 square miles of land -- an area smaller than New York City -- that happens to jut out above the surface of the water. And on Tuesday morning, before you even woke up, it made Donald Trump the first man to qualify for the Republican presidential nomination.
Er... since when are the Northern Mariana a state? The rule says eight states.
Don’t forget North Carolina!
A territory is treated as a state for the purpose of entering the candidate’s name in nomination.
Trump will win many more states on the way and he’s well past the 8 state threshold.
The GOP establishment’s dream of a brokered convention now appears very unlikely.
I'm stockpiling pitchforks. If they change the rules I'm going to be rich!
Super news!
Cruz still could. He has four, Texas, Maine, Kansas, and Idaho. Rubio only has one, Puerto Rico.
The Establishment has known for a while that a ‘brokered’ by them convention is out of reach. Any ‘brokering’ will be between Trump and Cruz supporters.
These big-donor meetings to stop Trump are just scams by Rove and Diaz to steal more money from old fools.
Florida will do it also. That’s winner take all. Nate Silver has that up to a greater than 99% chance that Trump wins.
I have to admit I’d be in Watters World if someone forced me to point to the Northern Marianas on a globe...without looking.
The GOPe etal want to hit back but alas they just toss good money at bad candidates:-)
Soros, Alarmed by Trump, Pours Money into 2016 Race
The billionaire has already spent or pledged $13 million to help Hillary Clinton and other Democrats this year.
YES!!!!!!!
YES!!!!!!!
I know. In theory Trump could be the only candidate on the first ballot. Also, in theory, if Trump is the only candidate on the first ballot he wouldn’t need 1237 delegates because he would get 100% of the vote for nominee.
Where it gets murky is can they change the rules for the 2016 convention or are the rules set in stone for 2016? Also, we have an RNC committee member claiming that delegates are free to vote however they which on any ballot.
I think Trump will get to 1237, so that should, but probably won’t, be enough to squelch attempts to deny him the nomination.
Thanks for the info, goldstategop!

Vote Trump!
Rubio has 2, PR and DC.
Correct! Cruz needs 3 more states to win a MAJORITY of the delegates. That doesn't sound too hard at first glance but with Kasich probably not pulling out, it might be impossible. Remember, Cruz could win more of the delegates in a particular state but if he wins, say 48%, that is still not a MAJORITY of the delegates. Problem for Cruz is that most of the best states for him are already done. He has no chance in the Northeast for a majority in any of those states so his ONLY chance is New Mexico, Utah, Montana, or the Dakotas. Northwest states are also out.
Rule 1: Territory = state. It’s in the article.
Two. DC majority for Rubio but we have already hit #PeakRubio.
But Rule 1: States that territories for this purpose shall be considered to be the same as States. It’s plainly referenced in the article and quoted.
Don’t worry, the GOPe will change that too, if it blocks Trump and m as kes way for their boy.
It’s what they do. Lie and cheat.
Turn left at Wake Island and you'll find it.
