The Armys top general says military forces on the ground face a high level of risk if the United States gets into a large-scale conflict against a power such as Russia or China.
Testifying Wednesday on Capitol Hill, Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley ...
a great power war against one or two of four countries China, Russia, Iran and North Korea .. the Armys readiness is not at a level that is appropriate for what the American people expect to defend them.

“And when war comes (and it will) the American people will pull out their EBT cards ... and wonder why” their EBT cards do not work ...
American people wondering about the military is so far down the list as to be non-existent.
Meanwhile, the Navy and the Air Force are focused on spending the lion’s share of their respective budgets on buying as many F-35s as possible, regardless of cost or actual mission performance. The Navy is additionally focused on buying their very expensive, eminently sinkable, and undefendable LCS class of ships.
The Army, having done away with expensive platforms finds itself with a budget without justification, and so has re-purposed itself to make sure it become a fully diversified workplace replete with same sex barracks, transgender awareness, pregnancy awareness, lactation training, and opening up combat positions to women to include Special Operations, while keeping at all costs the training scores either hidden or ‘adjusted’.
No amount of money is going to fix the problems above - only a complete house cleaning of all top Pentagon brass has any chance of reversing this military social experiment trend.
As all of this is happening in the US, China has begun to form up its formidable space warfare military sectors, while the US is thinking about it, but lacks the funds to actually devote any real resources to match.
Russia is forging ahead with new tech in armored vehicles (the uni-chassis T-14, T-15, T-16 T-17 Armata series) - the US is still relying on upgraded Abrams series for which the Russians produced a counter in their (now obsolete) T-90 series; in fighter design (SU-35, SU-35S) {neither the F-22 nor the F-35 have a working heads up helmet despite it being a 40 year old tech - neither has a BVR missile comparable to standard Russian BVR missiles - until recently the F-22 did not even have a long range BVR missile}; and in new tech Super Heavy Lift booster rockets (putting to shame anything planned in the US - public or private) - the US relies on Russian-made engines for the foreseeable future with some marginal help from Space X and other private companies.
Maybe it will take a major war for the American people to get their collective heads out of their self-absorbed and entertainment obsessed navels.
That statement by Kasich about enforcing a no-fly zone in Syria against Russia was just mind-bogglingly stupid. The man is clueless on issues of Realpolitik right out of the gate.
Yes, but he merely echoed Carson, Fiorina, Bush, Hillary, Graham, and even Sen. Tom Cotton.
Can you imagine if these girls get captured during battle what would happen to them? Human pin cushions before losing their heads! The older this country gets the stupider it gets.
Soros tweeted something remarkably similar.
Kasich’s foreign policy is all Soros based, IMO.
Bring back beehive rounds and ICMs!
Time to get ready to kill people and break things...starting with the liberals’ feewings!
Well, then let's not do that...no matter how desperately the banksters want to kill off their creditors.
Ah, the end of the cold war. The peace dividend. Beating swords into plowshares. Throw in 15 years of some degree of combat in South West Asia. Our readiness has been downgraded, but of late we are told it is foolish to prepare to fight our grandfather's war. What is a fellow ro believe?
All I heard from my superiors when I was a lowly Platoon Leader was "it's your platoon, you handle it."
As a Maintenance Officer, I coined a new acronym for a vehicle or weapons system that had more than 5 things wrong with it: MFB, "Mother F-----'s Broke"
Battalion Hq did not appreciate the humor in that acronym.
I basically ended my career when I asked the Group Commander for a two week extension on our ARTEP, because we couldn't get 3/4 of our weapons systems out the gate. I caught hell for that, then had to endure the ARTEP wearing both the XO and Maintenance Officer hats. For my efforts in enabling the battery to pass, I received the worst OER of my career.
General, get off your a$$ and do your job. Quit complaining and show some leadership.
Wouldn't hurt if our generals were more like Sam Damon and less like Courtney Massengale.
BTW, that's a reference from "Once an Eagle", by Anton Myrer. It's a novel that's part of the curriculum at the Army War College. I read it as a 2nd Lt. I admit that I was a PITA as a Lieutenant, I blame it on the Jesuits...lol.
So very true. And wars today are come as you are. To procure weapon systems takes years. We get into a war with China or Russia and we will be destroyed. The F-22 is a mess, as you say. Overweight. Can’t dogfight.
bkmk
57 would probably do it. I remember seeing an article decades ago showing how few it would take. Using a map of the US, the author said 5 nukes would take out the west coast (Seattle, Portland, San Fran, LA and San Diego). Another five to take out any military bases from Montana to New Mexico. Remember, each vertical line of blasts results in radioactive clouds wiping out cities to the east.
Then, another ten nukes would be laid down from North Dakota to San Antonio. Another ten would hit from Wisconsin to Mississippi. Another ten nukes would hit from Michigan to Alabama. The final 15 would hit the largest cities and DC along the East Coast. Radiation, EMP, and collapse of civilization would take out most survivors. The last two nukes would hit Hawaii and Alaska.
Could we dislodge a Chinese invasion of say, Canada, without nukes?
Canada --> lebensraum and fresh unpolluted water (but not for long should the Chicoms arrive).
“He is delusional or malevolent, or both.”
He is both delusional and malevolent.
It’s spent 14 years as an army of occupation and empire building. I imagine it’s out of practice.
“Well, then let’s not do that...no matter how desperately the banksters want to kill off their creditors.”
It only takes one side to make a war. Bin Laden declared war on us for a decade before we noticed.
