MS State Rep to Constituent Opposed to Tax Cuts: Move back to Illinois

It seems that everyday residents of red states aren’t the only ones fed up with people moving to our states from their failed progressive fantasylands and bringing those failed policies with them.

One Mississippi State Representative echoed the sentiments of many of us; while I live in Florida, not Mississippi, Florida is being inundated with blue staters fleeing the results of their policies . . . only to try to force them on us.

The Clarion-Ledger reports:

When Becky Guidry of Gulfport emailed freshman Rep. Karl Oliver, R-Winona, expressing her concerns about the tax breaks being considered by the Legislature, she was shocked by his response.

“It is irresponsible of our leadership to suggest eliminating income and corporate franchise taxes when: revenue projections are already down, budgets for various services are being cut across the board, funding for public education and other critical services such as child care, foster care and roads/bridges are underfunded,” Guidry wrote in an email she said she sent to most representatives. “… If and when this bill reaches the full House for a vote, again, I urge you to vote No.”

Cutting taxes in a red state!? Who ever heard of such a thing? Needless to say, Oliver had a fitting response:

The Clarion Ledger includes the email he sent Guidry:

Mrs. Guidry,

I normally don’t return emails that do not request a response, but I found yours so intriguing I simply felt led to respond.

I see you are not a native to the Great State of Mississippi nor do you and I have similar political views. The people of our Great State overwhelmingly share my same or similar views on Government responsibility. I appreciate you going to the trouble to share yours with me, but quite frankly, and with all due respect, I could care less. I would, however, recommend that there are a rather large number of like minded citizens in Illinois that would love to see you return.

With warmest personal regards,

Karl Oliver

WJTV12 is calling the response “shocking” and quotes Guidry’s response:

"It seems that I don't count since I was not born and bred here," she said in her Facebook post about the email exchange. "Guy's family has called Mississippi home for at least five generations. For what it's worth this is my home now and as long as we live here I will keep fighting for my family's future here."

I don’t find his response “shocking”; instead, I find it refreshing and hope more red state elected officials follow suit should they be urged to do something that is not only in opposition to their own ideology and political beliefs but is also contrary to those of the majority of their constituents.

If you’ve lived in a blue state for thirty-odd years and make some move to a red state...you ought to sit down and discuss this move and the impact upon your life. If you can’t handle the lifestyle, the culture, or the politics in the new state...then why move?

About 20 years ago, the Army moved their Aviation Command from St. Louis to Huntsville, AL. Shortly there after, a group of democrats tried to raise property taxes and state income taxes. Many of those who had moved to Alabama had been pleasantly surprised at how much house they could afford here since due to the lower property taxes. Many of those who had moved supported the tax increases, after all, they were only paying a fraction of what they had paid in St. Louis. The tax increases were rejected by a five to one majority.

I think you’ll find a similar attitude in most every RED state. We really don’t mind if you move here, just leave your attitude and liberal beliefs behind you.

I live in Florida too. Whenever I hear some notion like we used to have this where I came from I always retort well why did you move here? It is fun watching them stumble through that one.

When we lived in Utah in the mid-90s one of the common complaints was about people moving to Utah from California because of the high taxes and over regulation who once they got to Utah started to vote for politicians who promised the same high taxes and regulation that drove them from California.

Or, to paraphrase a pupular quote:
Move, shovel and shut-up.
Let me expound?

Move
Shovel
STFU

the receptionist at my dentist echoed this woman's mind set.

she'd moved down from Jersey and was complaining about how we didn't have this or that here. I asked her why they moved to this red state.

her reply: we didn't like the taxes

my reply: then don't try to recreate the mess in the blue state you left in this red state.

I asked someone moaning about how backwards the South is, “why are you still here if you hate it so much?”

As a Southerner and former Mississippian, I can tell you that it is fairly common for people to move in and insist on telling you “how things are done up north”. My question is always” “If it was so great, why did you move? We got along great for lo these many years WITHOUT YOU.”

I lived and worked in Silicon Valley for 45 years. After the last round of lay offs I moved to the north woods of Georgia to be closer to family.

I am grateful I did. Love the people. Love the state. Love the culture. I have been warmly welcomed and consider this place home. Do not want to return to Mexifornia and Pelodiland

We had a town board chairman tell a city dweller that was complaining about snow on the roads.

“Well you do live in the country now”

The look on her face was priceless.

And if you're in a Red state that is seeing massive blue state migration, fight it hard. If you don't you'll wind up in the same boat as VA and NC. We've been overwhelmed with Yankee libtards who've turned our reliably Red States purple, if not blue.

I asked someone moaning about how backwards the South is, “why are you still here if you hate it so much?”

Work brought me and my family to southern Georgia. Our values line up very well (we are traditional Catholic, area is mostly Baptist and Evangelical). When it was clear that I embraced the values held by many southerners, I had no problem fitting in at work or in the local GOP. Frankly, I can speak more freely here than I could in my old workplace in Madison, Wisconsin. My children take to it well, too. Not so much cussing by others' kids at the local swimming pool. A serious Little League operation. A healthy home school coop.

Unfortunately, the Diocese of Savannah has not been willing to provide a Traditional Mass for people like us. We have to drive 110 Miles to greater Atlanta. Other than that, all is good. Now, what's up with Nathan Deal?

Carpetbaggers in the last 3 generations have no clue who they are. They must check their brains at the state line because they certainly quickly forget why they decided to get out the cesspool they were living in and do not seem satisfied until they turn heaven into hell. And they call us stupid. Dumbasses.
